JIS8 practically means that the camera can withstand any strong splashes from any side or even fully immersed the camera in the water with "light" pressure, say, less than a few metres.

I really doubt that for a SLR for having very "strong" water proofing as the weakest point is at the mount!
Camera is smaller than K10D/K20D, but has more sealings.

Well you said you have to combine the D200,D2X and the E3 And I did
What will it be then ?

11 point AF system is okay I suppose ?
The 5 FPS also...
Maybe the buffer and the viewfinder not ?
11 - OK. Wait a bit. May, 20 is close.

I'm sure. Better. I don't know JIS8 or not, but better.
When I see these words, I can't stop my self to register and reply you that:

As you mentioned (are you?) some one wash K10d in basin, the "Better" should be "wash" in bathtub.

If it has more holes (microphone i.e.) it must have more sealings

Okay than that's confirmed
I have to say I am a bit disappointed with it...
I had hoped for more AF points, a completely new AF system...I hoped for it after the disappointment of the K20D in this respect.

Inner sealings? So it does have a rubber soul, that's where the Beatles connection is

The phase detect autofocus system is an improvement of the existing system in the K20D, it is not totally new. This doesn't have to be bad. The K-m uses an improved version of the AF system from the *ist DL2, and the K-m outperforms the K20D in low light.

I believe isn't the actual performance more important than if the system is an improvement of an old or a totally new system?

It will still be SAFOX, but a better SAFOX.
Performance will satisfy.
There is no need to worry.

Yes, I've read that before. Funny, given the somewhat uncertain presence of Pentax in Norway currently (fovi.no was the distributor for years, and the new distributor aronsen.no hasn't actually been very convincing yet, at least not in its web presence www.pentax.no was left unconfigured for several months before they finally redirected it to the Aronsen site)

Said NEW AF SYSTEM in press-release.
Maybe layout of AF points is a bit different?
The AF has greatly improved algorithm.

What makes SAFOX SAFOX?
What distinguishes it from others?

There is no JIS standart for DSLR, because DSLR has a BIG HOLE in body.
Standart could be only for DSLR with WR + lens with WR. But there is no such standart.

OK! In low light performance will satisfy, but what about predictive focus/focus tracking? Is there an improvement? Or put it otherwise, is there an algorithm at all?

Resistance is Futile

Safox is just Pentax name for AF. But what matters, besides algorithms of course, is phase split aperture (~f/5.6), the m resolution, size and light sensitivity of AF sensor cells.

It is funny how these figures are analyized to death for the image sensor, but nothing is known for the AF sensor. CCD, CMOS, size, #pixels? ... nothing!

I don't care if it is Safox whatever, But I would care if those parameters would improve...
