But MTF is stored in the lens. They might just do the same for distortion & co.
They will probably be stored in both. In the body for older lenses and in the lens for newer one. That would avoid the need to upgrade the camera firmware each time a new lens is issued.

Indeed that would suppress the necessary frimware update. But I highly doubt Pentax will add more lenses than required in the firmware which means they will support:

* DA/DA* for sure
* FA most probably
* F maybe
* A and prior lenses highy unlikely IMO.

They might as well introduce a system on board allowing the user himself to set profile for his older lenses. That would be neat.

Before the confusion gets out of control here ...
The K-7 firmware can correct for distortion and CA for DA and DFA lenses, only. From the K-7 press release.

Here's a bit of info I recieved from a birdie:

Magnesium Body
Sensor shift left, right, up, down and 15 degree turn
HDR built into the camera
flash sync at 1/180
5FPS

and yes as being discussed above:

Distortion Correction
Chromatic Aberration Reduction

Now these would be absolutely killer features for landscape work. Mainly HDR, distortion correction and CA reduction. What would be the function for sensor shifting? Tilt-shift emulation via body?

I doubt that these data are stored in the lens.
I think they are stored in the camera.
As the patent says it is stored in a chip in the lens. That's why the Marketing director for Pentax said in an interview that DAs needed some changes on the mount. It is more logical that each lens carries its own info rather than a body which would have to be updated whenever a new lens was announced.

I'm not connecting the dots? what does flash sync 1/250th or whatever have to do with 300mm?

I suspect it matches. We expected x250 but it looks like x180 is definitive, unless you can change via firmware
As for the 15 tilt, perspective correction in body like shift lenses. That's why the OK button has those arrows.
5fps maybe with the battery grip only, I guess.

Hi, Peter!

Dams2One seems very sure about his info. I suggested a friendly bet that will help me buy the DA*300

You win. I'm also buying the DA*300. I have already the front dust cover. I need the rest.

Not precise information15 - funny. where did you get it? why 15, not 20 or 30, or 10.
HDR built into the camera
Not precise information

flash sync at 1/180
maybe, yes...

5FPS
Not precise information

Distortion Correction

it's not important features. it's secondary features.

If, in fact, the K-7 has sensor-based tilt/shift, it will NOT be through the OK button. Too many users who have no idea what tilt/shift is would get confused by it and end up not liking the results. Besides, the icon with the arrows on the OK button is almost certainly for AF point selection (and the button to its right is almost certainly picture mode selection, and yes, some people do shoot jpeg. Not to mention you can't shoot RAW in video, so that's likely to be especially useful there).

We're missing our old bracketing button, so I'm assuming that's also been relegated to the menus, so I suspect that's where the T/S (if it exists) is located as well.

On another note, if the lens corrections are confirmed to work only with DA and DFA lenses, all those FA limited users are going to be quite a bit dissapointed... perhaps a solution would be profiles for older lenses that you can load onto the camera and then select manually when you've got that lens on the camera (kind of like dialing in the focal length for SR with pre-F lenses)?
