That's too bad. Maybe they'll implement such a feature in the next one. I'll go ahead and buy a K-7 anyways.

...around christmas...

Since it's titled "K30D" could you imagine if that model gets the same leaks, fakes, mis-info, and rumors as the K-7 and everything gets posted in here?

Well...IMO...I think this thread could be locked down and a new (and correctly titled) thread for the real K30 could be created when the time comes. Although it's not my decision.

My prediction: This thread hits 4000 and then dies.

I don't know what I see there. K20D and K-7 are mentioned, ISO1600. And two images have less chroma noise than the other two ...

How sad

How sad is to see The Thread dying... I was watching it right from the beginning (although I contributed just two times) until now and the waiting for new K30D (ok, K-7 now) was really exciting and I guess I'll remember that for a long time.

Anyway I really look forward for getting the new Pentax, I hope I'll have enough money about autumn (well in the meantime I need to get DA15 :-D)

Thanks everybody for this great discussion, have a good light and enjoy K-7!

I'm pretty sure what you're seeing is an image from the K20D at ISO 1600 (conveniently labeled "K20D ISO 1600) above an image from the K-7 at ISO 1600 (also conveniently labeled).

What I see in these samples is a grainier result from the K20D with more luma noise compared to a softer image from the K-7 with almost no luma noise but more color noise, much "smoother" in a way that reminds me of canon jpegs. There are also a lot of hot pixels. If I were basing my purchase decisions purely on these samples, no way I'd buy a K-7.

However, all this implies to me is that 1) the samples are from a preproduction test camera and there's a reason why pentax tells its early-testers "DO NOT POST FULL-RESOLUTION IMAGES OR IMAGES AT ISO 1600 OR HIGHER." Things haven't finished being worked out yet. My hope is that I can set the jpeg settings on the K-7 to get the same image characteristics that I get from the K20D, since I far prefer a bit of luma noise in a crisp, sharp photo than a bunch of smeary chroma noise like I'd get from a rebel. Shooting RAW I strongly doubt the K-7 will be any worse than the K20D either, most likely better.

God do I agree. I don't mind luminance noise at all, but chroma noise just looks nasty and, for lack of a better term, digital. Luma noise looks more film like. This is one of my favorite (and oft pined for) aspects of Nikon. They do a tremendous job of cutting out the chroma noise, so even "grainy" high ISO images have a pleasing look to them.

At any rate, while these shots look rough, it's only firmware v0.2 so I'll ignore them.

Agreed. I am looking forward to ordering a K-7. After that, I think my next purchase will be a wider DA limited to go with my 70. A semi-pro spec camera in compact size (with the ltd.'s)!

Since it's not a picture of the K30D, shouldn't that be "a pic fail"?
