The german info about the body sounds plausible. does that mean the screen is not 3"...

I wonder how it will fit if its not supposed to be either a pro level cam ie above k20d, or a replacement for k20d, then where is it supposed to sit. And does that mean they will keep the k20d after its release, I kinda doubt that.

the pre order indication seems to put it equal or slightly above k20d

Of course it will be possible to turn SR off.
Too bad they remove the lever tho, I like more buttons on the body, the lever also made it very fast to check if SR was on or off, if its in a menu then its easier to forget that u turned it off

Remember this is not a replacement for the K20D but something new. There is still room for another K30D body as I don't think the K7 is the K20D replacement but will be like the MZ-S, tho I am still holding out some hope that they release a digital upper spec cam in the MZ-S styled body.
Could you please explain what this means, for those of us that aren't familiar with the MZ-S ?
According to wikipedia this was an HIGH-END model.... These are actually good news

thanks

It seems that some of the 'Mr. Blurry Cell Phone' images show the playback type buttons up on the back of the top plate of the camera, this probably means that the screen is either bigger or articulated, I'd guess, though the whole camera also looks narrower, so how much bigger would be a question of what really fits.

As SR switches go, I'm constantly turning that on and off. Kind of hope they at least threw in another configurable button or two that you could apply that to. It's not going to be a concern for a while unless I can get some exercise in, but I can be *very* steady, especially with this digital. I'm used to wielding old Canons in low light.

Could there be a sensor on the grip that disables SR if you are not holding the camera, ie if its on a tripod?

more important than the size of the screen for me is the resolution. VGA 920k dot screens are the standard now and Pentax better meet it

I think this thread can go up to 2000th easily if more info leaked slowly.

Hmm...wonder how Ben is gonna beat this thread :P
We've just had about 20 posts about the reported absence of the shake control button. I'd say we'll get to 2,000, easy.

K-m : K2000 :: K-7 : ?

In other words, if we are following a similar naming convention to the K-m/K2000, will the K-7 have a different name in the US?
I am guessing
K-m : K2000 :: K-7 : K7

Naming it K30 in the US would be confusing as hell.

someone on a german forum posted that he has pictures of front and rear
of the cam, but he isnt allowed to show them.
but he gives some information:

true name written on the body: k-7
button on the top is for ISO setting
on the dial is a symbol for videofunktion
device on the front could be(looks like) fa assist lamp
green button is on the rear side
extra button for lifeview funktion onn the rear side
SR button misses, like k-m
nothing else noticeable.....
hmm...there's now a dedicated Live View button on the rear, makes sense. so it seems like the third position on the on/off switch we've seen on the real camera goes back to just being optical DOF preview..

if that's the case then we can all finally dismiss the idea of any type of hybrid EVF/OVF as it doesn't have a display button to toggle it on or off. unless Live View is handled the same as the K20D and that Live View button is the EVF overlay button.....seems less and less likely as leaks come in.

i think we can all come back down to earth now and prepare for the K7(?) to simply be a compact, rugged, 14.6 mp APS-C camera that is up-to-date with HD video, 3"inch VGA screen, SR, and improved AF with AF assist.

the biggest headline feature besides its keeping up with the other brands' features and its small form factor will be a superlative 100% optical VF. let's prepare for this reality and hope Pentax will surprise us more with the VF but other than that, it's not the time traveling Square Format, FF, APS-H, hybrid E/OVF camera that it was at the beginning of this thread.

pretty exciting camera and a big step for Pentax regardless. hopefully it comes out soon to better escape the big hype that will inevitably surround Olympus' micro 4/3rds entry due the same time.

K2 would make the most sense here.
