The idea of a grippable left side has not died for the sake of compactness! I'm happy.

ring switch around shutter release

If this new hump next to the mount was a DOF button

(speculated here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/576550-post1469.html)

a spot on the ring switch around the shutter release would be freed up for what?

Activate that mysterious EVF in the VF?
Has anyone seen a picture of it?

Cheers,
Torge

The front e-dial does look better sort of covered compared to my K10, also I was going to say the white dot/window to the side of the shutter release could have been the IR pickup, but from rice's 'dream' picture it would seem that that has just moved down to the base of the grip.

yup he has seen it or somebody gave this pic to him and photoshopped to sketch. so technically it's still unofficial. so no harm on NDA person who gave it to him.

So what have we got?

Did I miss something? Or is there currently very, very little info on anything related to the photos this thing will take?

Nothing on the sensor, except that it will stay APS-C. Nothing solid on DR, resolution, ISO Range...

AF seems to be the same, flash sync half a stop faster...

All we have are a handful of people who has seen it and are excited...

(I'm not grumpy about it - just trying to stay down on the ground)

You didn't miss anything. You're right. All we have are rumours about the specifications and nothing else. There aren't even any leaks - at least no official documentation has made it into the public domain which confirms or even indicates any specifictions. RiceHigh's blog is rumour until proved otherwise.

This has got somewhat out of hand. We have no firm information about the camera since the very first image leaked.

All we know is:

1) Has front dial
2) Has fixed LCD
3) Has HDMI connection
4) Has external mix connection - therefore has video
5) Has top LCD
6) APS-C (Pentax have stated this in interviews)
7) No EVF (Pentax have stated this in interviews)

I'm not including anything about the AF assist light or white balance sensor thing as this is just speculation (however likely it may or may not be).

The hype that's being built up by certain posters is very similar to the hype that got built up for the K20Ds release. It is even recycling some of the same rumours about in-OVF EVF elements.

I am getting a bit bored now to be honest...

To be honest, the only information we are certain so far is:

1) there is a new camera in development
2) the camera exists physically in some form (photo by the spa on Ned Bunnell's blog)
3) the camera will be APS-C
4) something will be announced by Pentax Spain on may 20th.

Unless I missed something, absolutely nothing else has been proved as coming from Pentax. Not even one of the supposedly leaked photos of parts of the camera.

This could all be an elaborate hoax and/or an internet rumour-storm gone astray.

We have info from Rice High blog about body.
The camera will be on sale earlier than June, 20.

K-7 is developed several month ago. The new camera in development will be close to Christmas.

True. Assuming the photographs etc are not genuine.

Even if they are genuine apart from the video function they don't prove any diferences from the K20D (apart from form factor)

He has no verifiable sources. Therefore as far as anyone reading RiceHigh's blog is concerned its all unsubstantiated rumour.

It may be true. It may not be. We don't know. We just have his word for it (and yours).

I think you're the only person who thinks k20 has excellent high ISO performance...

Of course he has "no source". "No one does" because all the sources are under NDA. If they broke the NDA, well, they wouldn't be anyones's "sources" much longer....

Blah, so it sounds like business as usual. I really wish Pentax would take their own advice and be interesting. If this camera is made of magnesium then make a silver version (if its plastic don't bother), sue a square sensor or APS-H sensor. Something, anything to stand out a bit. I personally was really hoping for APS-H. I even started calculating some of the lens by 1.25. the 17-70mm would become a 22-87mm. Now to me that is interesting. A standard zoom that starts in the ultra wide territory.
