Flickr Trends
I was looking at Flickr's stats, and I was very surprised how popular the K10D is vs. all other Pentax models:
Flickr: Camera Finder: Pentax

(K10D is pink, K20D is yellow.)

The K20D has a straight growth line, but can't manage to catch up. The green is the K200D. Looks to me that effectively these two models split the market, whereas formerly everyone interested bought the K10D. (In fact, as of today, active daily users of K20D + K200D is almost exactly equal to K10D.)

Makes sense. The thing about Pentax bodies is that they are all fantastic. There is not much incentive to upgrade. Whereas the "other companies" plan their entire business off customers needing to upgrade bodies and lenses all the time just to get something decent. It's one of the reasons Canikon make more money. And it's one of the reasons I have a Pentax.

wow that flickr stats graph is so cool. i didnt realize they had that.

Just for fun i wanted to see how the two big wigs were duking it out. They seem neck and neck and even have the same dips and peaks its almost scary. It's like everyone that uses them are ROBOTS!!!
C in Pink. N in blue.

Also i checked out the # of users for each of their cameras. As predicted the Rebel was on top. I think it is funny and peculiar that for pentax, their top camera seller is their most expensive model instead of their entry level(k10d well when it was released)! its almost backwards.

if theses pseudo stats say anything, i think pentax may hit it big with the k-7. maybe most k10d users were satisfied enough to not upgrade to k20d and waiting for the next one?

I think that is very much spot on. Pentax nowadays is an enthusiast brand; not a default choice of the masses. If Pentax can used this to their advantage, they could find a profitable niche in the market. In spite of the fact that the pros are using Nikon and Canon, their brand value is bound by the fact that 80% are using them; not something you will choose in order to be different. They are the GM and Ford of the DSLR world.....

That would be me. According to DxO Lab's camera rankings, the K10D actually edged out the K20D in RAW image quality. Surprisingly, the Samsung GX20 did better than both. If I were going to make a stop gap upgrade, I would move to the GX20, not the K20D.

I may still do that, depending on how long it takes the K-7 to depreciate a bit. Much as I hope to see explosive sales for the K-7, I don't personally buy newly released anything.

DXO smoked crack as following them the sensor is not the same between K20/GX20.
Maybe they should get a clue..

The sensor is the same, the processing is different. Every review of the GX20 mentions this; there is more of a difference between GX20 and K20D than there was between GX10 and K10D.

I know the processing is different but according to DXO the pixel pitch isn't the same

Clues are oft distributed but rarely acquired. Sort of like stray puppies... Everyone thinks the world's problems would be solved if everyone else would just take one home.

670 should be weight.
980 is 98% viewfinder? or 980$? or video width is 980?
no way for 15fps. maybe 15Mbps for video recording?
