OK, I'll bite. Is there some kind of in-camera processing that smooths out harsh bokeh? That could be interesting.

Compiled a list of current speculation status, added some questionmarks where i allowed myself to speculate a bit... Correct me if i´m wrong

& indeed about sports, my friend I hit games with shoots a Pentax & my Canon P&S cams that I'd shoot with before I went dslr out performed her camera at indoor sport shooting, she has constant WB issues...
in which way out performed? whitebalance? and which pentax was that anyway? nearly every dslr on the planet today is terrible at assesing wb indoors (for some reason...). just shoot raw, or use the manual wb/finetuning if you have to shoot jpeg (for indoors sports, at least the quality of the light should be constant, if terrible), and btw, finetuning wb on a k10d/k20d is probably nearly the best implementation for such a task (or at least the best i have seen so far, including computer software designed for that).

if you have the idea to switch, i suggest you borrow your friends pentax (or, if you can, preferably a k20d) and shoot with it what you normally shoot for a week or so, see how you get on. don't believe people who say it's worthless for sports, and don't believe me when i say it works fine for me, what matters is how it works for you.

back on topic. where's that k7 people were tossing around for testing? oh, there's none? damn

You're warm. You should look up what some people consider as a drawback of the DA* 55/1.4 (and I'm not speaking about the focusing speed or the price but with regards to the bokeh).

I'd say some sort of in camera database of lens data so the image can be manipulated for fringing vignetting focus bokeh etc. based on the lens in use.

Am I close :-)

Add CA/Purple fringing (& maybe distortion) to the mix and I think you'll be even closer.

That would be awesome if they could also include older F/FA series lenses that possibly have more CA/PF problems due to not designed for digital. Although I'm not sure of the limitations with identifying those previous generation lenses.
