Probably because it is the "same" camera. Ie they share camera electronics circuitry. The 645D was frozen to free resources for a top model K-DSLR; the K-7. Also certain aspects of the 645D was out of date. My guess is that the K-7 donated its camera control electronics (the imaging pipeline may share a thing or two as well) to the 645D. Metering and AF module as well.
never thought of that but that could be true

645 with direct access to image modes, well there has been similar lols before, like the hassy having a built in flash...

But if thats the image modes, how do you change the drive mode? Would be logical to group it with the self timer button but then why use the self timer icon on it

I really think it is just simply the button to put you into focus point select mode.

I think clearly the ok button is for that, the icon below the OK text looks like focus point selector

It could be for "Face-detection" or something to select metering-zone.

Sloppyness in reading THE THREAD will not be forgiven.

Go back to its beginning and search for clear proof that the mount is a K mount and that it ships with a manual. It's all there, right at your fingertips

Does not prove anything, with photoshop I can even prove that I am passionately making love with Keira Knightly or whoever.. And even if not photoshopped, you could file off the mounts and glue them on the body with superglue. No Sit, pic don't necessarily tell the truth...

What other icon do you think would be more logical here?

It is a K mount. Only one of the communication pins has been modified to download lens distortion characteristics to the body processor.

I wonder if the grip will have any extra functions as per the extra pins on it.
It would be a lot more attractive if for example instead of sd card storage it had an sd card slot.

having double sd cards would be very usefull considering the movie mode, those movies are going to take a lot of space I assume. with 2 slots one could get 2x 32gb cards.

Boring?

The K-7 features the newly developed PRIME (PENTAX Real Image Engine) II, an
upgrade of the original PRIME, as its imaging engine. This new imaging engine
offers greater data-processing speed and produces better-quality images with richer
gradation and more accurate color rendition. It also offers high-speed movie data
transmission.

I doubt that these data are stored in the lens.
I think they are stored in the camera.

But MTF is stored in the lens. They might just do the same for distortion & co.
