Lens <--> body communication

Here is a brief description of how lens talks to body:

" It is desirable for lens data corresponding to each of the zoom codes and each of the distance codes to be written in the memory beforehand. Upon receiving a memory communication command as a memory communication signal from the camera body, the logic IC switches the connections of the terminals thereof to the memory and selects a page of the memory which corresponds to the zoom code and the distance code that the logic IC inputs via the plurality of input pins to transmit lens data written in the page to the camera body. "

So a page corresponding to the zoom setting and distance measured, stored in lens EEPROM, is read and xmited to the body processor.

Here's the rest of what my birdie told me:

AF illuminator light
100% viewfinder at 95%
70+ segment metering
Safox VIII+
Top shutter at 1/8000
14.6MP

17 RAW in burst
Weathersealed
1080i Video at 30fps

They sound pretty realiable to me but we will have to wait and see... we know most of this already

Hi, Peter!

Dams2One seems very sure about his info. I suggested a friendly bet that will help me buy the DA*300

Oh I see. This thread is so long that it would take 3 days to read it all. We're adding a new page every hour or so. I missed the bet. You'll enjoy the lens. It's a beauty.

If, in fact, the K-7 has sensor-based tilt/shift, it will NOT be through the OK button. Too many users who have no idea what tilt/shift is would get confused by it and end up not liking the results. Besides, the icon with the arrows on the OK button is almost certainly for AF point selection (and the button to its right is almost certainly picture mode selection, and yes, some people do shoot jpeg. Not to mention you can't shoot RAW in video, so that's likely to be especially useful there).

We're missing our old bracketing button, so I'm assuming that's also been relegated to the menus, so I suspect that's where the T/S (if it exists) is located as well.

On another note, if the lens corrections are confirmed to work only with DA and DFA lenses, all those FA limited users are going to be quite a bit dissapointed... perhaps a solution would be profiles for older lenses that you can load onto the camera and then select manually when you've got that lens on the camera (kind of like dialing in the focal length for SR with pre-F lenses)?

Yes, I follow your idea. OK is also for AF select, maybe more... That would be fine for FA Ltds, a firmware input, but I suspect that the process calls for lens-body comms only. Bracketing may by done now with the new HDR process, menu driven, I guess.

Thanks, Peter!

I all honesty between 60-250 and DA*200 I think I'll wait to see what "Super-telephoto" means before I commit money for the DA*300 although it seems a lens universally appreciated.

Very interesting, HDR and sensor shift sounds like likely features for the landscape oriented pentax, and does qualify as attention grabber features that will get a lot of press and would be good.

I hope they improved the 1/180 sync, at least to 1/200 so its actually within standard speeds, I cant set 1/180 on my flash meter, only 1/160 or 1/200.

1/250, 5fps and 1/8000 top speed sounds like good basics to have if they want to place this model higher than k20d

I'd rather see 1/500 flash sync... heck it would be neat if via firmware you can unlock the camera to have an electronic shutter meaning flash sync to 1/8000 without HSS!

Oh well, I dream.

Maybe some of us are thinking too much of the tilt

Maybe it is just a thingy that will prevent tilted pics.\
Would be a major upgrade for me

You seem very sure of yourself Ogl but I wouldn't bet against Dopeytree. I think he's on to something here. Flash sync is a bit disappointing
