Makes sense. Pentax knows that everyone has issues with their low light AF. Hopefully they have fixed the issue beyond this, but this should definitely help to rid a lot of those complaints.

As I puzzle a bit, the idea occurs to me it looks like there might be a button or door involved. It looks like it's in a bit of an odd place for a control you'd use while shooting, though. Could it be that's an assist lamp combined with a microphone for video? I still think the shape looks a little complex for it to be *just* an AF lamp.

I don't think it is an AF assist

I mean, judging from the position, especially if this is a "small"camera, I think the hood of many lenses would block it...
Didn't that happen to at least one of the Nikon dslr's???

Don’t you think it’s the IR-remote sensor, as on the K10?

I wonder, if in that position, it may be blocked for IR as well..

Auto focus assist lamp

I'm quite sure that this thing is autofocus assist lamp. Think about it - rumors say that K7 will come without integrated flash, so autofocus assist is must-have.

Actualy I think this lamp is like confirmation that K7 will be without flash.

Why on earth would Pentax issue a camera without a built-in flash (if for no other reasons, just to control off camera flashes...)??

Because "it looks more pro"??

I sure hope not (and the various pics show that the on board flash is still there...)

Why would anyone believe the K-7 has no built-in flash? I don't understand. I would guess it has both a built-in flash AND a separate AF assist lamp.

The “looks more pro” reason doesn’t work in this case since it surely looks as it has a pop-up flash.

Makes no sense to me. Primary competitor is the D90 and it has a popup flash w/ commander mode.

Do you know the specs of the upcoming camera, to make such a claim ?

BTW, I do agree that the new camera should have a built-in flash.
