seriously doubt they will be doing a full frame any time soon, it just does not fit with the DA lenses.

it will be a k7 almost exactly + sensor upgrade.

Nubi,

For me it makes a lot of sense, I do want a battery grip and weather sealing. Don't mind a plastic body, and high fps is not important.

What is important is sensor quality in the high ISO and DR department. I'm sure the new camera will have very good video also.

What is known about this change of direction? I'm curious as to what happened and why anyone outside Pentax knows about it.

Well, maybe they made a somewhat inferior macro a better lens...
In what way was the previous lens "somewhat inferior"? Again, I'm genuinely curious.

FWIW, Nubi might be right about the timing of an FF camera. Sony's A850 (Almost A900 technology for a bargain price) is something to watch out for for Pentax. Somehow I feel that Sony may become the biggest threat to Pentax.

I smell FF for 2010.

DA 60-250 was delayed. I still have to run my lens test over Xmas to see if it rates +++ as a FF lens. If it does (and it may well do) then the lens situation isn't that bad:

FA 31, DA*55, DFA100WR (NEW!!), DA*200 primes (new tele coming?)
1.4x (FF?) converter (another curious delay ...)
DA* 60-250/4 zoom

The only lens missing for a launch would be
DFA* 24-70/2.8 zoom

(It should be noted that an 1.4x converter makes a sharp DA lens full frame capable by definition (it magnifies the image circle).)

I mean, why not call the DFA100WR DA100WR and ignore the 35mm suitability if APS-C would be carved in stone?

The problem I see is that a FF body implies a comittment for the SLR business I don't see Hoya is yet ready to make. But this must not prevent them to develop the body.

You forgot DA*300
Oh, DA40, FA43, FA77 as well.

But why would Pentax release DA200/300 as DA and not as DFA then?
Because they changed their mind?

DA40 DA70 etc. got only a "+" in my rating ( https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/31629-da-lens-...ts-thread.html ). DA*300 a "++" with an option to receive "+++" if it performs as well as an FA*300/4.5 in the corners.

My list was meant to list potential +++ lenses on FF. DFA*200 and DFA*55 possibly were too early as any new DFA lenses fuel the FF speculation

they will be doing full frame in 2010 ... but "full frame" in pentax world is the dfa645. Pentax won't have a 35mm equivalent full frame next year.

Probably because they've said repeatedly that they've got no plans in that direction.

Most reliable info we have at this point.

because Pentax don't have the clout to do a full frame and a medium in one year.

And if we've heard about the 645d, we would have heard something about the full frame.

maybe they will do one, but not for 3-5 years.

Whatever happened to official Pentax people actually posting here?

I thought Ned Bunnell was a regular once upon a time, whatever happened to him?

Seriously all this talk about FF is getting crazy, look at Olympus! All they have is micro 4/3 and they seem to be doing fine at the moment.

JCPentax just seemed to have vanished after he did his marketing spiel. Not a great loss, AFAIC, as he dodged questions he didn't like, and told people off when their Pentax love wasn't unconditional.

I never saw Ned Bunnel post. What is his user name? It is a bit peculiar to see him speculating about the K-x on his blog. Why doesn't he ask Pentax Japan instead of guessing how the K-x deals with different battery types?

I think a lot of Pentax's decision on full frame has to do with the availability of a sensor for a cost they think they can manage. Not saying that we are there yet, but I think Sony would certainly be willing to sell them a full frame sensor and that's where it starts. Samsung also seems to be in the running. I don't see Samsung being able to launch a full frame camera on their own and so, if they want one, they'll need help from someone else.
