Dude this is the greatest marketing hype for any camera this year, the whole world is actually waiting to see what pentax does next, imagine that!!

What you perceive as breathholding by the Canon and Nikon crowd is actually a big yawn. Few of them give a hoot what other manufacturers do. Sony is of some interest, because it is such a huge company, but Pentax and Olympus are beneath their notice.

The "whole forum".......maybe. The "whole world".......hardly. I must admit that Pentax is doing a good job building the drama on this camera, but in all reality I think the only people holding their breath are computer savvy Pentax users.

I'd also say there's interest from the whole world, but it may sound a little exaggerated.
The whole world meaning people from all corners of the globe, rather than the entire world.
Even users from other makers might have a passing interest in it...possibly. Judging from the number of viewers in the rumour forum, I'd say there's a lot of lurkers, surely can't be all/only Pentax users.

OP maybe you are not familiar with rival marketing, but its used extensively in video game business and movie business. It's nothing new here.

P.S. you can throw the dumb 1.3X square sensor rumor right out the window. The cost of the sensor and prism would be too close to full frame to make any business and technology sense. It has nothing to do the real up coming camera.

By that token, everyone should really, really pay attention to what Samsung does, since they're big enough to swallow Canon, Nikon, and Sony whole. (And it will indeed be interesting to see if they make a Samsung version of this new thing, or if they're basically going to go NX the whole way.)

Matt: Samsung has two problems in consumer electronics, especially digital cameras

1. The name - not associated with anything (Sony suffers from this in cameras, but can lever a half-century of electronics familiarity in the Western world)
2. Focus - their very size makes putting a concerted effort behind digital cameras iffy - unless they DECIDE to actually do it - then watch out.
