1.) K100
2.) K110
3.) K10
4.) K20
5.)K200
6.)Km
7.)K-7

I don't count the K100 Super, because it's a K100 model also.
I like this theory best.
Well done.

Are you likely to go climb the k-7 mountain or indulge in the 7 deadly sins.. not really no but it does contain the number 7 hence the connection in this thread :P

7 is my favourite number, so I'm not complaining. That doesn't meant I get the name. I don't care what explanation they give, it should have been called K1D, as dictated by their own naming scheme. That said, Pentax don't generally give a s*@t and do whatever they want...for better or for worse, so K-7 (K7, K7D...) it is.

Just release it already!

The Outdoors and deadly sins

I'm not likely to climb K-7, but I spend a great deal of my time outdoors hiking and camping. I own:
  • The North Face fleece outerwear
  • Lowe Alpine shells (Lowe Pro in camera gear)
  • Eureka! tents (maybe a bit low-brow, but great value)
  • Primus stoves
  • Vasque boots
  • Kelty backpacks
  • Winston fly-fishing rods
  • Ross reels
  • Sims neoprene waders
  • Pentax cameras
All (except The North Face) are associated with high technical design specifications, research, and good price/value relationship, and all are branded to appeal to the same demographic - discriminating, higher-income outdoor enthusiasts.

As to deadly sins, I am likely to indulge in Lens and Camera LUST for the rest of my life.

It 's got nothing to do with other cameras....

I hve heard sound rumours that K3 was indeed the name intended. However , a few month ago we had shocking news from "that other K3", the world famous Belgian girl band.
http://www.k3.be/
K3 on wikipedia
On march 23rd, 2009, it was announced that one of the members decided to leave the group. Indeed it was broadcast all day over the radio:
Kathleen leaves K3
releasing anything called K3 this year would have caused major confusion.

By the way, and probably more likely

By the way, K3 is part of a very commercial undertaking (studio 100: Studio 100 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) and I have no doubt that that organisation has already claimed the brandname K3 for ANY product that they might want to market now or in future and who knows, maybe the owner of this organisation, has had plans for marketing a special K3 camera for kids. So K3 is out for any camera...

As far as I know you can't legally protect a combination of letters and numbers as a model name anymore, unless it's more than 5 characters long, or it's a brand name (not a model name).
K7 or K3 is just too short to claim it's a trademark.
