I'm leaning towards the speculation that its a white balance feature.
What is that? How does that work?

It looks a the incoming light instead of at the colours in the picture. Assuming the camera is in the same environment as the picture being taken, it should be much more accurate. You should be able to switch it off though, or in some situations it will of course be worse. But by the look of the camera, I am sure it will have manual setting and also the old method supported as well.

If those photos are real (it seems they are) then the new camera looks great... and a dedicated ISO button close to the shutter is a great add.

I have never heard about it before.
But there must be a sensor behind that, too? What's the difference?

It mainly sees the ambient light, not the colors of the subject.

Like taking an image of a grey card....

I really couldn't put my finger on it but I had a feeling this K-7 looks very much like something I had seen somewhere else and voila, since you posted that E-30 pic it stroke me that its curves (or lack thereof) is very similar. Design trend maybe?

Yes, much more so than anything else.
its basically like a built in gray card. But the olympus folks are out on the difference this makes. It appears as though it does not improve things that much.. But then again when they say that the White balance is off even more on the cameras without this feature.
Pentax has relatively good white balance in the K20D. If this was to make it more reliable then I would be very happy. But maybee not as happy as an AF assist lamp....... but you never know what is in the flash. maybe its like the old built in IR pattern on the PZ-1p, then we would have the best of both worlds. But I doubt that.

I am absolutely flabbergasted at how any number of Pentax engineers can look at the flash strobe and say "yep, that's good enough, or in fact better than our competitors".

It absolutely does not cut it, like, at all. There is no single thing that hampers the Pentax system more than the absence of this $1 LED. I hope very dearly that that thing on the new body is AF assist.

.
As i have read in some reports on Nikon bodies, from that posittion I doubt that it will work on the DA* lenses with hood, let alone my preciousssssss FA*glass (FA*28-70/FA*80-200).

You can change ISO on the K20D by pressing the OK button (right under your thumb) and using the front dial. A dedicated ISO button is of no importance to me (you will have to use a dial anyway), UNLESS it's programmable (I really hope it is).

Well, (this is pure speculation at this point, what else is new...) it would still be better to have it than not. They could keep the flash strobe assist as an option for those special cases.

You mean like Apple?

According to that picture it has proper grip. Something to sink middle finger into. Huge improvement.
