Look at the top LCD and see all of the symbols on the body, those aren't on the K-7. And the *ist D has a silver shutter release while the K-7 has a black one.

Well obviously if you cover the AF assist light, its not going to work.
If the AF assist is visible enough to work on smaller lenses that should be ok.
For example, for my DA35 or my DA40

Would you really expect an AF led to be enough light to help focus in situations where you would need a 300mm f2.8?
AF assists are not really designed for long distance work...

I too believe that it has an AF Assist lamp. Now that the X70 has one, why not the K7? The AF Assist lamp on the X70 works with the huge 24x zoom lens so why wouldn't it work with a hooded DA lens? The lamp is VERY bright, so size wouldn't be all that important... it just requires some kind of lens on the front to focus the light at the center of the focus grid. It appears to be something like a 1 watt LED, so that baby has a little punch to it.

with my d50, i quickly noticed that the af assist lamp is so intruding when it might be of any use that i just disabled it (and forgot about it altogether). other nikon owners confirmed they find it just as pointless (and downright embarassing at times). i am not sure of how much use an af assist lamp is in practice.

the lines on that k7 look promissing (if that's truly what it is), can't wait to see the rest. hopefuly, we have another beautyfull camera coming out form pentax.
