Unless its blocking the flash or something, a hood is pretty much always worth using. Just because the light is dim enough to need to use the AF assist light doesn't mean there isn't side light that could be hitting the lens.

This is true: AF assist lights aren't that much fun for photographing people. Really about as much fun as having a bright flashlight shine directly into your eyes. But for other uses, it works quite well. It still won't produce the instantaneous, infallible AF that certain people seem to believe Nikon and Canon bodies possess.

Alex, when I first saw it I jumped up and down and posted that pic of the Nikon thinking we finally had one. But upon looking that the x70's that you reference, there's no way that it's an AF lamp. Just look at the difference. the x70's looks like Nikons. The K7's is completely too small.

Are you sure? It looks identical to x70's to me!
And it simply cannot be anything else. WB sensor window would be very flat and white; and not something Pentax DSLRs use.

the lens doesn't looks like DA*55 SDM - that lens has gold-colored letters.

so, either there'll be new 55mm SDM lens, or that's 35mm SDM lens (that first number is not really 100% legible)

The image is probably BW, that's why the gold leters are missing.

Then why the zoom and focus rings...?

and why the personal insults about the guy. At least he has leaked us some stuff...

Nice looking camera. Hope you're all right about the 'new' focussing system...and the big 100% pentaprism (finally). Sick of this 92% BS...

Cheers,
Cameron

I would like to agree but the K-7 has a pretty small "lamp", I'm leaning towards the speculation that its a white balance feature.
After Ken100D put up the bigger version of the "enjoy waiting" photo, I think it's clear it's an AF assist lamp.

Oh, I don't know - those assists can be pretty small on compacts.

Good viral marketing. Someone is having a lot of fun and paying everyone back for all of the negative criticisms around here........

the lines on that k7 look promissing (if that's truly what it is), can't wait to see the rest. hopefuly, we have another beautyfull camera coming out form pentax.
That's also what I did on all the cameras I ever bought that had a "bright" AF assist lamps. Only the red ones were acceptable (but had a short efficiency distance), the other ones are really incredibly annoying when shooting people.

Difficult to say how many people craving for an AF assist lamp have actually used a camera with this feature and realized how inefficient it is.

Maybe it has something to do with the myth that Nikon cameras have good low-light AF because of their assist lamp... the only problem being that they also have good low-light AF without it.
