Will pentax fix the banding issues with the K-7?

I can't help but wondering if the upcoming K-7 will have any banding issues like the k20D? What do you guys think? Some post seem to suggest that the K-7 will use the same 14.6MP sensor as the k20D.

I bloody hope so.. this has been present even in the k10d with a different sensor and it renders iso 800 unusable really in low light.. unless you like the nice banding effect

I would think so !

This had been an issue.

This may have the same sensor pixel count as the K20D but I believe they said the sensor has been reworked and upgraded ... so lets see !

This camera will be a VERY, VERY important step for Pentax, and I'm sure they don't want / can't afford any mistakes on this major first Hoya / Pentax effort.

This camera NEEDS to be a winner as the K10D was when it first hit the market. Although the K20D was a MUCH, MUCH better camera, it did not fire up the crowd as the K10D did upon it's introduction - as I remember.

So far the K-7 seems to have generated lots of excitement ... a very good thing.

There is no banding on the K200D and K-m. The K10D had a serious banding issue on underexposed pictures.

The K20D seems to be variably affected. Some are, some are not. If you read dpreview K20D review they talk a bit about this variation.

On my K20D banding is not significant (except for the verticals strips banding which is in another unrelated kind of problem).

Many cameras, from other manufacturers are also often affected. This is a widespread problem but this is happening in very special conditions where the performance of the sensor is *pushed to its limits*.

Yes. I think I read reports of the Nikon D300 which also exhibit some banding problems.....I am just hoping that the new K-7 will not have this issue; maybe pentax should not "push the sensors" that much

If the sensor is upgraded then I would expect a usable ISO6400. But as the K10D proved it might not be the sensor at fault.
The K10D was the only camera ever with this sensor type to produce VPN.
D200, D80, D40X, D60, A100, A200, A300, K200D, K2000/K-m.

The K20D is a different beast altogether.
Really no bands until Iso 2000-2500. Even then it was faint.
Another problem with High Iso on the K20D was a Magenta cast that came on like mist from all four corners of the frame.
However, none of these problems I think are that important compared to the biggest K20D problems.
The AF in tungsten or low lights. I am not talking about the speed
If you are required to shoot at High Iso (1600 +) then you will most likley use shalow DOF lenses. And I must say. almost every lens I own behaves differant under tungsten compared to daylight.
In daylight my F50 1.7 needs a +3 adjustment for perfect focus. Under tungsten it requires a -7 !!!!!!!
Now. The AF assist light will help a lot but I would rather they fixed this. Also the larger viewfinder will help to spot out of focus shots before they happen.
Anyway. The orizontal bands which appear on underexposer should be fixed a bit, also the magenta cast and hopefully the AF. If my K20D had all of these then there would be no point in my wishing (covoting) the K-7

Ahh...I never shoot that high (I hate the noise after ISO1100). Even the expensive Nikon D300 has issues at high iso, so that's no real surprise...

I definitely got it a lot on my K100D. Haven't seen it yet on the K20, though.

VPN = Vertical Pattern Noise. Creates noticible 'stripes' of noise at high ISOs, especially in dark areas, very difficult to remove with post-processing. And very ugly.

If the history of new DSLR introductions is any guide, someone, somewhere will work tirelessly to demonstrate banding in the new camera - regardless of the conditions needed to do so.
