The K7, IMVHO and knowledge, is still a myth until I read something from Pentax

No problemo, and I gather that things "downunder" are remaining consistent

I thought the 50-135 was at $999.00 before the hike? Thats what I recall. I did not have it written down.

At any rate, I expect I'll have a bitter taste in my mouth for some time yet.

Pentax might find that people are not as ready to part with thier cash as they were last year.

I was going to post yet another rant, but I see little point.

They were greedy, Period. Sales sucked and now they are being partially greedy.

Maybe your pricing should be reduced to the USA pricing instead of accepting being taken advantage of? I don't buy your arguement. However if you want to overpay than so be it.
And your negative attitude is based on what evidence?

To take one example -- the FA50 price in Canada has gone up 50%. That might look like a lot, and it is...but it brings it to the same price it's been selling in the UK forever. Before the increase you were getting a steal due to the generous and beneficent wisdom of the glorious Pentax and their love for all things Canadian.

Now they've decided to be fair.

I can take a quick hop across the border and buy in Buffalo, bring back what I want, pay the duty and still save big $$$. Visit friends there at the same time as my American friends are some of the best people on the planet.
And my Canadian friends are some of the best people on the planet. This has no relevance to Pentax I am sure.

Same here. Seeing it for $1750 the next week was bizarre, and I'm glad I got shortly after Mr. Simpson gave his first generous warning!
Always nice to be "in the know" on things like this... thanks again, Jack!

That's great, but if you buy local in Canada (especially in Ontario) the government is going to get it's 13% on top of the prices listed........

As a Kiwi, I get pretty pissed off that the PST/FST (read GST) isn't added into the advertised price.

If that's selling price it's about $200 high, relative to what it can be bought for in the UK. But if that's list price it's likely correct.

Funny how a few here defend the prices yet never pay list themselves. I laughed at the being fair comment. Wow what a wonderful life must be in that persons perfect world.

Pentax Canada pricing is out of touch with reality.

Example: expensive retail shop in USA Da*50-135 is $749 USD where in Canada retails for $1199CDN

Or Da* 300 is $1079USD expensive retail shop or $1549CDN at Henrys. (Try to buy Pentax anywhere else and it is special order, Doh! so is Henrys on this one)

How about a Da*200 for 899USD expensive retail or $1249CDN. Nah no ripoffs here according to our Pentax friend in Ireland!

And last but certainly not least, one of Pentax gems according to many users of this fine grade of glass. DA 12-24 $699USD at another expensive retailer while at Canadian Retail $1299CDN. Hmmm no ripoff uplift here....

Moral of the story, complain to Pentax Canada like crazy to get their pricing in line. Since my current Pentax is old, old, old I looked at the glass/body I wanted and what the costs were. Taking in mind the costs compared to brand X, there really is no huge cost advantage to stay. (There is still a minor price advantage for Pentax though)

Parting shot: Unlike the 2 or 3 fanboys here that will overpay, overpraise and just believe everything Pentax Canada says; I will not overpay. Sometimes truth hurts and telling the truth makes you unpopular. Our Pentax friend in Ireland being the biggest know-it-all that really has no clue in regards to how channel marketing functions in Canada.

I have moved on to another brand and do hope the new K7 is as good as many here hope it to be. I have no grudge against Pentax, just their fat lazy undermarketing Canadian outlet.

I wonder what the FA 43mm f/1.9 is now? Just over a month ago it was $469, then jumped to $899 ...yup, still $899.
Pentax Canada is not getting my business, I'm sticking with film anyway until something really grabs my attention.

Please actually compare prices as I have done, if you want to argue based on facts. If you want to throw around insults, think first how spoiled you have been having a long run of the lowest prices in the world for Pentax gear.

And yes I am Canadian so I do have a context. I even have sympathy in those cases where lenses are way over price. But I live in a country with no dealers, no competition, full list price on everything... and that in euros with 22% tax. So spare me the whining. And you're welcome to my perfect world any time. I doubt you could afford it though.
