This may be both wishful and naive thinking, but if the K7 can record video with audio, doesn't that imply that Pentax has drastically improved the sound of the shutter? On the K20D, I can scare a deer at 30 yards just by clicking the shutter. If that happened at 30 frames per second, candid videos would be absurdly loud.

Or is there some silent way to re-set the sensor electronically to take the next video frame without flipping the physical shutter at all, perhaps a separate shutterless sensor just for video?
Your not hearing the "shutter" your hearing the mirror slap. AFAIK all modern digital cameras use an electronic shutter that doesn't require "reseting" normally. Video modes so far leave the mirror up blocking the view finder, which is the reason manual focusing is impossible, unless you use the focus distance on the lens.

The shutter opens only once, when you begin filming, after that the sensor is read out X times per second in order to record moving images.

You can also scare squirrels at 30 yards

Yes, live view?

Edit: but I think we could definitely benefit from a silent mirror.

From what I've read.
1, it's having the same sensor. The ISO noise will be the same.

2, K-7 is having video. I have strong opinions about DSLR and video.

3, nothing has been said about the buffer. I guessing it's not going to be any better.

4, it's going to be too small for my man sized hands.

5, no shake reduction switch. what's that all about.

But this is all speculation.
1. no any info. if camera has higher fps - it's another version of sensor.
2. yes
3. no specs
4. it's hard to say. i can't say that K200D is small.
5. no problem

The K20D is far from silent. I hope the K-7 is more quiet at least.
BTW, I too don't believe the K-7 is all these mentioned in all those threads.

If you have an early copy of the K-7 within the distance to conclude that, maybe you could count how many "divine shutter sounds" you hear per second?

ogl, I am sure the shutter is perfectly silent from the distance you are constrained to listen
