Actually I think the new lens line is just cheap weather sealed lenses in line with the kit lens for the K-7.

I guess I get my 12-24 before prices go back up.

They're a Hoya company after all!
I know right!

Bring on the 11-16 already.

Would this warrant changing the lens naming? I really don't think so as they already have weather sealed lenses. I wonder if they are putting another contact on the K-mount for more logic. Perhaps for better metering.. still speculating of course.

スタンダードのdaレンズ”に仕様変更を加えるためだという。

They are saying that they are adding new specs to the standard DA lens......

Specs eh?

Do any alarms go off here for anyone? Our glorious glass is being updated to be even better..New specs? New features? We've been so busy discussing the K-7 that this lens update has gone unnoticed.

I am thinking this has more to do with the weather resistant thing, however. They are saying standard so limiteds won't be proofed but perhaps all standard da will eventually WR'ed - crazy. But one way to differentiate from others, I guess.

I agree that it is most likely just the WR thing.
I would be really surprised if Pentax would update the lens(es) to real video lenses, and I can't think of any other reason for an update.

Yep, I think WR as well

But I have no doubt "DA" will be kept in some form of another....
The "A" in lenses is something Pentax they won't drop.
Ofcourse they could drop the D instead fro a W in the new sereis but a "WA 300"does sound somewhat odd..
maybe DWA or DWRA lenses... I doubt the "WR"will remain a last addition to a model name.

I want the 11-16mm too. Can someone make a poll on the lens forum so we can show them how many of us want this lens?

Right now in my neck of the woods:

the 50-135 costs $1800.00
the Tokina version costs $900.00

The Tokina 11-16 is $800.00
So I would expect the Pentax version to be $1200.00 to $1600.00?

So, If I really wanted the lens, It might become cheaper and faster for me to buy a $800.00 Canikon and the Tokina version of the lens then to wait for the Pentax.

Or how about this:

Pentax
12-24 $1300
16-50 $1000
50-135 $1800
Total $4100

Tokina
12-24 $800
16-50 $900
50-135 $900
Canon 40D $1100
Total $3700

And I save $400.00 to buy beer.

Ya... I'm still bitter with the pentax price hike.

Why don't you Canadians (I don't mean that in a derogatory way!) just buy online from US retail shops, eBay, or the used market?

I haven't bought a single Pentax product, not one, in person... I don't see the big deal. If Pentax Canada is a rip off, don't support them.

Not that would be a real killer move . CaNikonians basically walking around, advertising Pentax .
that would increase brand presence, true, but also would bring confusion to ordinary camera users - questions like "why this pentax lens doesn't fit my pentax/canon/nikon/sony camera?!" would be very common.

our beginners part of the forum would be overcrowded!
