i would be interested in what falconeye has to say as well. i would also like to see another kind of point of view (falconeye is, i think, very technically-inclined, much like me), maybe somebody with an "artistic soul" (this means nearly no tech knowledge, to be sure it doesn't get in the way
), however i don't know who that might be.
i think this move from pentax DE is a very good sign, because, as i said many times, nobody gets involved much with the community, and people will like that, especially as pentax is already doing it to some extent (via ned mainly). giving the cameras as loaners only is not about price, but about integrity: no bribe, i am sure they were very tempted to just give the cameras away, but resisted the urge to not be blamed of bribing (and render the entire campaign useless, or even put a negative spin on it). i also believe the move is smart beyond the community attention and "kudos" it will get, as someone else mentioned: we are sick of "scientific" "standard" "unbiased" tests, they are interesting in some ways (i check dpreview when i need to see comparative specs quickly, easier than to search several different manufacturer sites), but the reviews are almost worthless to me, as i found. i tend to search high and low for reviews written by real photographers, using the equipment (camera, lenses, tripod, whatever) for real actual work of some kind, for a reasonable length of time (not several hours, or a day or two!)and "telling it like it is", and it's so hard to find that kind of review these days. i recently read marc's somewhat un-informal review about the k20d and 40d while shooting wildlife, i found it extremely interesting and insightfull, sure you must take it with a grain of salt, but if i had several of these honest, "that's what i know, that's what i do with the cameras, that's how it worked for me" revies, the picture would be 95% complete before buying, together with the "sterile" reviews, instead of just the 10% we now have (from hundreds of sources).
can't wait to see it, i hope the reviews will not be german-only (though i should brush up on my german skills anyway)
