Mmm IMO this is a bit easy to say so now. In traditional Pentax times I wouldn't have been surprised but we'll see if Hoya makes a difference here.

A least on price (negative point), marketing (slightly better), NDA (quite more restrictive than Pentax-alone it seems) and development (even with what we know now, who'd beleive such a camera would have appeared before Hoya?) Hoya seems to have quite an influence, they may have some on production/shipments capabilities (or not).

Pathetic.

I use Pentax for over a year now, and still think it gives the best value for money BY FAR.
But your complete ignorant to existing disadvantages is nothing more than ridiculous and pathetic.

I agree with illdefined, the only thing keeping Pentax back is the performance category - and it's a key category for pros.
I guess I was just shocked to hear that other cameras have faster continuous frame rates and (perceived) better AF . No one has ever posted anything about that before.
You made a very detailed, lengthy post on the PENTAX forum as to why Pentax sucks. Did you really think you wouldn't get at least a few flames from that?

Everyone needs to relax. There are things the OP likes about his Pentax camera and things he does not. He is allowed to express these thoughts and solicit opinions from others as to what might be in store with the new body. No big deal. Nobody's children were insulted.

"weeding" is it in the gardening field?
I thought flowers are pretty stationary, and you would not need fast AF !

Am I missing something here?

My K10D focus instantly on everything and the longest it has taken is 1 second and that is in a pitch black room lit by a single candle light. I'm sure a canon is faster by my reflexes aren't fast enough to detect the difference with a stop watch....
It's funny then that anyone just trying some Canon gear after using Pentax for some time always find it surprising how much faster the Canons are...

It's not like it's a big novelty or hasn't been described before.

I had the same "feeling" when trying K10/K20 + 50-135 SDM side by side with 30D + 70-200f4USM... isn't the 50-135 designed for Pentax?

Of course, it is somehow lens dependent but how come so many people, with hard earned money invested in Pentax (and so no real incentive to buy Canon or anything else) make the same remarks?

If I were in your shoes, I think I would look for decent lenses for wedding purpose. Those lenses are really awful for low light situation. I do weddings with my K10D/K20D (K10D MkII), but I use only fast lenses, and the focus is more than acceptable. Not as fast as Nikon or Canon, but good enough for the job.

I'm not going to waste my time reading through another entire thread on Pentax bashers vs. Pentax apologists (lol), but I'll just say this, built-in SR is enough to keep me on Pentax for a long time to come.

That's why, even after acquiring a 5D, I still consider my K20D as my main machine.

I laugh to see my brother, a D90 user, talking about the merits and demerits of this Sigma lens or that Tamron lens, because one is the focal length he wants, but doesn't have IS, or the price differential will be big, or the inability to seriously consider MF telephotos because of that, etc. etc. etc. And every time I count my blessings because I don't have to worry about any of that when I choose a lens I want to use :-D

I think that if you have the money that will buy you all the lenses you want from the Canon line-up with IS, then there shouldn't be much holding you back (except for stuff like the limited prime lineup and compactness etc., but clearly, you don't see those virtues as good enough reasons to stick with Pentax).

Hi,

Yesterday I was trying out my friend's Canon 50D, and was very impressed with it.
He is trying to convince me to switch to Canon platform, mainly because he works with it and he wants me to work with him, and this way we can share lenses, etc'.

IMHO, the current only real advantages that the Pentax platform have are the built-in SR, and of course the total price.

However, in terms of performance, the 50D was so much better than the K20/K200....
From the point of view of sharing kit, it makes sense to switch.
But, sharing kit can sometimes have it setbacks, when you have 2 cameras between you and only one of each lens...who chooses what?

Performance, is debatable. I don't have a K20, neither do I have any interest in shooting weddings.
Put a sexy prime on a Pentax and get outdoors and see what she can do.
Put a fast lens on and indoors will be better.
A fiend of mine uses a K200 to shoot gigs. He gets some excellent shots, so it kind of shoots the low-light theory up the arse.

My K10 has struggled indoors in dark rooms; there has been some hunting...but I use the kit lens which isn't the fastest.
It hasn't bothered me really...there was a time when AF wasn't an option.
But, if I pay good money for something, I expect a bit of quality, and that's where Pentax ups its game.
-I think picture quality is as good as any other brand.
-choice of lenses is outstanding.
-WR
-SR
-Primes
-Sheer value
-Build quality...and so on.

I used a Canon eos 50e for many a year.
I wanted a MZ-5N at the time, but it was more costly, so I went with Canon. When I made the switch to digital last year, I also made the switch to Pentax and have been extremely happy.
I'm not a pro, not even an amateur, just a fan of photography.
As long as Pentax make cameras, I'll stick with them, cus of the reasons above.

I think it's important to use the equipment you feel comfortable with.
For you, it seems like a switch to Canon is probably the right thing, but there are guys shooting weddings with Pentax...

As for the K-7, you will be waiting for a long time to get your answers.

Some posters have the right to defend Pentax.
Yes, some are probably harsh, but look at flyers post where he states "put on a fast lens and get the job done."
Think about it...

Try to focus on something in a dark room (with an external flash [Pentax 540] AF-Assist beam), when you have a big moving spot lights in the background (aka "Dance Club", "Weeding Dance Floor", etc).
Just so we're clear: I understand your disappointment to be that your camera won't quickly focus on moving subjects, in a dark room, with f4 or 5.6 lenses. Is that correct?
I think you would do well to take Flyer's advice: "If I were in your shoes, I think I would look for decent lenses for wedding purpose. Those lenses are really awful for low light situation."

I shoot with my Tamron 28-75 f/2.8.
And yes, the main problem is that it's almost impossible to focus on moving subjects - such as dancing people..

The posts I've seen from people using both (as opposed to someone who would like to find excuses for justifying consumerism) says theres very little difference. Tests with measurement proves the same. Pentax AF is fast and accurate. If it isn't, the camera, AF system, lens or calibration is at fault. Or the user of course....

Why don't you try using one of the GOOD Pentax lenses, since that's obviously the type of lens you were using on the C*non.

Methinks Canikon are figuring out how to do their own viral marketing, and sending in spies to prematurely bash the K7 before it even comes out!

How can we be talking about the lackluster performance of the K7 when no one has even SEEN it yet?!

This is the problem with these types of viral marketing, social media marketing, social marketing campaigns, and the anonymity of the internet- there's far too many opportunities for DIRTY marketing!

I somehow doubt Canon or Nikon are worried about Pentax in the slightest at the present time.
