We will see electronic viewfinder in the K-7.
Note to Pentax: EVF's suck.

consider the secret is really sth like electronic + optical viewfinder .
what's the possibilities?
1. live histogram,
2. enlarge focus point during manual focus
3. art filter before taking picture
4. preview double exposure
5. preview slow shutter effect like panasonic's g1

Any other possibilites?

Does these features really a big step ahead other competitors?

Roland Mabo has stated elsewhere that the K-7 will have new batteries, because it will need more electrical power than previous cameras. The oversized viewfinder housing on the K-7 suggests that something interesting is going on inside it. All of which lends some credence to this rumor about a radically new VF function. If it is well executed, I think that it may be something that will turn a few heads in the DSLR world, especially if the rest of the K-7 package is first rate. Some Nikon and Canon users may actually take a sniff just out of curiosity before turning away.

Assuming all this to be true, Pentax will then have to market the hell out of this camera and get it into places where potential customers can see and touch it. This is an area where Pentax have not shown much strength.

It seems to me that we can shoot video at K-7 thru optical VF.
That will be...beautiful!

No need - no switch ON. It's not EVF as it is.

A spokesperson from Pentax Germany said about a month ago that Pentax believes in the superiocity of optical viewfinders over electronic viewfinders. This has also been said from representatives at Pentax Japan in the DC Watch interview where Pentax comments on the Samsung NX project.

For most of these features you have to flip up the mirror and then you block the optical viewfinder, and a normal EVF isn't much to brag about.

Hey, OGL, I think you haven't always gotten much respect in these threads (at least from some people), but for myself, I just wanted to say that I've greatly enjoyed and appreciated your input over these last few weeks. Of course it remains to be seen what the real camera is like, but meanwhile, I do enjoy these little hints. Keep them coming!

Oh, and live histogram in the optical VF would be a HUGE feature!

What ogl says means something.
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
And I know that what ogl means is right.
IOW, it will have some sort of option to use EVF or optical VF, as the circumstances warrant.

Yeah, but video frames in Canon 5D Mk II wash out (aperture goes up) each time you hit the AF button. So, AF in video mode is a broschure feature only. Maybe the same for K-7, of course ...

This is a major statement! If it is true (I guess he must judge this from a VF schema drawing).

Maybe, the resolution of this internal display is low. But it would be a major break-thru really making C* and N* look old. Esp. if it is a Pentax patent difficult to circumvent by others ... (side note: Did Pentax ever patent the penta prism?)

Maybe the EVF is superimposed over the optical viewfinder somehow ?

To me ogl's cryptic reply is the same as "you are close, but not 100% there."

I doubt if Pentax would ever go to a pure EVF. I just cannot see it.

But I could see some type of information overlay in the viewfinder. So it would use EVF type components intended for user information. But I do not see it for images.
Read again my post (and the blog for more details). EVF, as implemented by Pentax, means optical view of the image (just in traditional dSLR cameras) AND electronic information superimposed on top of it; as for instance, live histogram, live view, magnification of image if required, etc.

In short: it means keeping the optical view of the image (which has no competition regarding quality) AND all of the nice thingies of electronic screens, but superimposed. I am speaking of pure theory, but if this is properly implemented, it mixes the best of both worlds.

And remember: Pentax patented it.
