Says who?

I hardly think the diagram is conclusive of evf being present, I think if it was there it would have leaked out by now

As much as I would appreciate this feature being present (I am thinking "VF for manual focus with loupe with manual lenses"), I find it surprising that the first hands on preview would not even mention such a feature (if not precisely, then at least by the habitual tease: "... and wait until you see that new VF Pentax has made for us...").

Wait (again...) until tomorrow I guess...

That is what I am worried about. I hope cateto is right. Yvon said that "others will have to play catch up." and there are other comments about "secret new features." So far I don't see anything in the "review" that suggests anything revolutionary where other camera makers would have to play catch up.

ogl must have deleted his post. And access to the pbase image is forbidden. Any other copy of the scheme?

If this image is from the official Pentax K-7 Powerpoint presentation, ok.
It looks like an LCD mirrored into the view finder.
But we don't know where this image comes from.

Moreover... It does not look like something new to me. It could have been the K20D's viewfinder. So here we see two systems: one for superimposing the AF areas in the viewfinder, and one for light metering. I don't see anything radically different.

I think I can see the same parts in the K20D's exploded view:

I had this in the "excited VF explained" thread, but think I'll post it here. More down to earth discussion

Also, I attach the drawing here again, taken from the other thread mentioned above.

So, I have a question, too.

Is the VF LED status line a mini board sitting at one side of the focussing ground plate? And if so, why isn't is part of the drawing? Same goes for AF overlay points.

As long as we don't see (in the schema drawing) how the VF LED status display and the AF overlay points are implemented, the drawing may just mean that we see the K-7 implementation of a plain optical VF like the one in the K20D.

From what I've read here, the patent mentioned by RuiC would require more than a plain focussing ground plate. But there is nothing else in this drawing.

So, for the time being, I consider the evidences for an electronic viewfinder overlay in the K-7 to be non conclusive.

Isn't the small but long blue rectangle (almost completely hidden below the prism, to the right of the ground glass screen) the VF LED status you are referring to?

Electronic viewfinder overlay rumor declared dead

Actually, thinking about it again ...

The left-most part in the drawing (the little red panel) IS the AF point overlay display. It also shows up in the K20D exploded view, as mentioned above.

Now, one could turn the AF point overlay display into an OLED live view overlay. At the price of some increase of production cost. But we have no indication whatsoever that they did.

And finally, the patent mentioned by RuiC seems to require more parts. So, it isn't being implmeneted in the K-7.

Therefore, I declare to EVF overlay rumor to be dead :ugh:

Yes, you're right. Somewhat hard to see (low contrast). So, the schema drawing would be complete, for a K20D VF with improved exposure meter...
