I thought this was about low f-stop lenses ...
There is a very entertaining thread about "big lenses" in general somewhere else in this forum, including the Zeiss lens. Which is impressive indeed
How about a 35mm F0.9 !

Zeiss Planar 50mm/f0.7 can be converted to 36.5mm/f0.7.

Canon 65mm F0.75 !

Absolutely, 30/1.4 is realistic; f/1.0 certainly not. The lens would be costing over $2000 in all probability and would be ginormous.

Also, how many sales would Pentax have with this lens!? Compared to, say, a 1.4 that would probably cost 1/4 to 1/3 of the f/1.0?

Finally, sensors are getting so good that f/1.0 is become more and more unnecessary. Bumping 800 up to 1600 on your K20D is much cheaper than replacing your 1.4 with a 1.0!

If it were technically feasible, price would not be an issue for a Pentax 30/f/1.0 lens. Why? Because the point of such a lens is not to return a profit - it is to demonstrate technical excellence and market-leading vision.

At one stage Nikon introduced two tilt-shift lenses, and lost money on every sale. But people bought into the Nikon system, even people with no need for tilt-shift lenses, knowing that the lenses were available if they needed them later. Those buyers wanted to buy into a system that gave them options.

I bet a 30mm F1.0 for the APS-C sensor would not be any larger than the Sigma 50mm F1.4 that has a 77mm filter diameter compared to 72mm for the Canon 85mm F1.2 or 50mm F1.0.

The Sigma is crazy large. Compare that to the 52mm of the A-50/1.2! (The Sigma weighs 50% more, too)
