Could be the way the flash is used. I am using 100% bounce or umbrellas with multiple wireless flashes (all Pentax brands). You are also try linking AE with AF point in custom menu and use focus point selection to choose you preferred area for exposure priority. I usually do a couple of test shot to dial in some compensation and adjust flash ratio, and subsequent photos should have very consistent results.
