If HD video recording is at 720p, 30fps (according to RH's posted specs), could someone please explain the usefulness of a 1080i output to the TV? Why not just output 720p to the TV? Are there TV sets that can take 1080i but not 720p?

Hi Peter, one of your photo showed a menu item called Composition Adjust, do you know what it does?
Good catch. I actually tried to find out, but couldn't make sense of it. When you select that item, you'll see this:

Flickr Photo Download: K-7 Image composition adjustment?

I forgot to include that image in my gallery and now I have added it.

Can anyone provide an educated guess?

Keep in mind that this is firmware 0.20 and this option may well be gone in the final firmware.

its likely one of two things: a crop mode, a level/rotation mode, or both.

It's about LV and (probably) stills playback output.

Thanks a lot for your time, Peter.
It will be available in selected stores for demo in Japan from the 23rd.
Can't wait to get my hands on it this weekend.
Affordable WR lenses is a good selling point, imo.

That's strange - I've seen a picture with something like 0.98b in exif, so it looks like the firmware is almost done now...

Wouldn't that be sweet if you could custom select your own aspect ratio?

As the author of the original hands-on article, I am now presenting to you a flickr hands-on gallery with English descriptions. I am on a busy day at work here so I won't be able to answer many questions. I can't emphasize this enough: the body I had access to only had firmware 0.20, so I would not evaluate actual performance of this body. That's why I posted mainly images of the exterior and some menu items of interest.

Pentax K-7 Hands-On - a set on Flickr

Thanks!
In this picture:
K-7 I/O ports on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

a new info screen can be seen also. It resembles the info screens of Sony, which are interactive (the screen is persistent and shows changes based on wheel movements). Is it the same on K-7? (AFAIK previous pentax info screens would just display info and turn off when the user would touch any control).

yay!

5.2fps, 1080i movie recording, old-style squarish small body, AF assist, better AF! Seems all majorly requested features are finally in.

I'm just curious about the video quality. If it's better than the D90 I'll be drooling all over it!

ogl, nice job playing the insider. you might have disappointed a few people though
