Oh no. Not that old chestnut.

Because it would be the size of Big Bertha.

Maybe because Tokina has never made one. But at least Pentax has an F4 DA 17-70mm AL IF SDM.

Every time I see WR, I keep thinking of Tokina's WR (Water Repellent) designation. Pentax calls their equivalent SP (Super Protect).

Or at least, why there isn't one DA like tamron 28-75 f2.8 ?

While I'm really looking forward to seeing exactly what the K7 will be like, I'm really excited about the idea of less expensive WR lenses.

I'm with Diego--a DA17-70 WR would be a beautiful thing. I'd be willing to replace my Sigma 17-70 with a 17-70 WR; in this case, it would be worth the extra cost of the Pentax version over the Sigma version. I'd also love to see them come out with a WR version of the DA55-300, especially if they modified the optics to allow for close-up on the long end like the Tamron and Sigma 70-300s.

I just love the prospect of having a fully sealed K20 & lens.

Because Pentax is commited to APS-C and the equivalent for 28-75 in the film era is 18-50. Some people like me, and possibly you, like the 28-75 range though. I'm not really complaining that Pentax isn't making one...yet. They should prioritize the DA 17-70 first.

Oh, so looking forward to a slightly tougher 50-200 to go with the travel kit of 21mm and 40mm. Together with whatever weathersealed camera I can get that is smaller than the K200D.
If this lens is immediately available, I might pick it up.

For my part I hope they have the idea to release a (really cheap) WR DA 50mm f/1.7.

Why f/1.7 ? Because they probably need to protect the Da*55mm f/1.4.

By the way, are there non DA* or Limited pentax DA primes ?

Oh, I got the answer to my own question. The 14mm f/2.8 and the two DFA's... even if they are not DA's in absolute terms...

You have to realize how much space the weather sealing takes, so it would make the 17-70mm much larger.
