1080i and 480p? Great! That is different from the specs that have been floating around so far.

Of course this may be just stills playback ...

the picture indicates its for stills playback but it would stand to reason it can shoot 720p video.

720p is confirmed, the 1080i is probably to display the 30fps mode above the 720p but it isn't full 1080P.

In reality thats just fine as good 1080i beats bad 1080p ( canon a1/G1 vs a consumer hd camcorder for example ).

looks sort of tokina-ish?

front grip is similar. Maybe some collaboration? It may be just me but its quite dissimilar to other pentax lenses for some reason? Maybe the engineering involved in weather sealing.

would make sense, Tokina being a Hoya company after all. i like further spaced knobs/grips on the lenses; less places for dirt to accumalate.

yeah...when I was in my camera search I was big into nikon...d90 was my choice there because the d300 was a little bit too expensive. What I liked was the affordable quality of tokina lenses. One of the big drawbacks to pentax for me was that non-compete clause where tokina cannot make pentax lenses. Hopefully this is indeed a sign of collaboration as I really liked tokinas lenses, especially the 11-16mm dx wide angle.

I'm also less hesitant about these mid-level zooms with onbody image correction! If priced right these "WR" lenses could be the perfect compromise between quality and affordability, at least for someone like me.

Tokina and Pentax have collaborated before, although in the wrong direction. i believe the 35mm DA macro formula is used on a much less 'Limited' (and SMC-less) Tokina version...

I guess a DA17-70/4 WR are coming too, more logic than a DA16-45 WR.
And "simple" DA50-200WR are more for K-m, to K7 DA*50-135 or
a DA55-300WR are more suitable.

BTW, where has "tweaked" SDM gone for the new kit lenses?

I thought it was mandatory to get decent contrast AF speed?

Except that the K-M isn't WR itself, so there really isn't that much sense in having a WR lens.

Imo the new look is closer to the D-FAs or the Sony Zeiss lenses. Either way it looks nice. I do like the old look but this one looks sharper, less "kit lensy" imo.
