My understanding is that Tokina and Pentax are owned by separate companies and that while they cooperate on some lens designs to save on R and D costs, they do not cooperate on them all. That is the reason for the dissparities in their lens line ups. As an example, the Pentax 60-250 f4 has not been released by Tokina.

The Pentax 100mm D-FA Macro and DA 35mm ltd macro have the same optical formula and specs as the Tokina counterpart. There are only about 3 of the current Tokina lenses that do not have a Pentax labeled counterpart.

Why should Canon and Nikon users get all the benefit of a Hoya company's R&D and for less money than Pentax users have to pay.( if we ever get the option to buy it that is)
