The usually reliable DPReview stumbled out of the box in its comparison of the K-7 to non-comparable cameras, particularly the Nikon D300.

The clear true competition is the very successful D90 launched last fall. How does the K-7 compare? Let's just say it should eat the D90's lunch if it can overcome brand snobbery:

Wrong, it competes with the Nikons D300 and Canons 50D. This is a top of the line camera not a mid level model.

The topic at hand aside, note how the value for K-7's continuous drive mode fps is incorrect.

Not my fault

Price point and specs proves the D300 is the competition. The D300 is almost 2 years old. No offense to Pentax, I've used them most of my life and my Dad did as well. Write down all the Pentax models that use Sony sensors, then all the Nikon models that use Sony sensors all the way back to the Nikon D100 and you'll see an 1 to 2 year lag regarding Pentax's bodies.

I agree...the D90 is kind of plasticky..a consumer market camera...the D300 is comparable.

I'm afraid DPR is right. The K-7 is estimated at about $1600-1700 Cdn. That is the exact price of a D300. D300 is closer in specs to the K-7 as well. Given Pentax Canada's latest price increases (even with them 'adjusting' them somewhat) If I had the cash a D300 would be hard to pass up.
Listed at $1499.99 at Henry's and I have preorderd mine at that price.

It's #2, as we speak. Click on it!

EDIT: It's #1! Keep clicking.

A few questions:

1. Mirror Lock-Up: Immediate/Remote
I still don't understand how this works. You press the shutter once for MLU and a second time for the photo?

2. In the Program Lines:
What's the difference between "Minimize DoF" and "Action?

3. Can you set the limits of Auto-ISO with the ISO button?
I see this is a menu item now.

4. Can I see an image of the Bracketing menu?

If this camera did not live up to spec, I was ready to jump ship. While I wish it did not have video, the camera now has the specs I am looking for to upgrade. We'll see what the reviews look like. Looks like a great new kit.

Looks good to me too, altho I wish it didnt have TAv mode, almost decided I wouldnt get it because of that, but after discussing with some other people they convinced me that if I didnt set the mode dial to TAv mode then it being there wouldnt really affect my pictures

Hey Andreas. Our paths haven't crossed in a long time.

Lol on the TAv mode point. Or maybe you've been avoiding me as you'd read TAv used to be my very favorite mode. It's what I "learned on". (haven't used it much since, but for a few time lately)

I use TAv almost exclusively with my 300/4. Otherwise it is in M mode.

Good thing you acted so fast. Now Pentax raised the price and Henrys sells it for $1599.99

Wondered how long it would take for Pentax Canada to look like total @ssholes with body pricing. Our $dollar is much higher in the last 3 weeks, so Pentax Canada raise the price on those pay anything cannucks........
