Short question:
Are the input images kept or deleted after the HDR creation?

The three source images are not written individually to the card when HDR Capture mode is activated. Which is why I suggest shooting the scene with AEB/DNGRAW+JPEG for source images for playing with, then switching to in-camera HDR of the same scene for maximum versatility

These pre-val cameras are running V.33 and it was made clear that the higher ISO IQ is not final, so it wouldn't be fair to Pentax or their fans to comment on this at this time

switching between normal Raw and HDR shooting

What kind of menu rigmarole is involved in switching from Raw to HDR? If shooting Raw as a general rule, is it easy to do a few HDR shots and then switch back? Does the Raw button allow a means of switching back and forth?
Thanks,
Don

That's really strange.

I agree with what you wrote in your article that the whole process is quite a mystery.

The camera takes three consecutive shots? You hear three times the shutter?
It is not simply an HDR from one RAW?

FYI: My colleague Mason Resnick has just published a mini-review looking at many of the other revolutionary features of the Pentax K-7

HDR from only one RAW wouldn't be true HDR IMO so this sounds logical to me.

Yes, I have tested this feature now.
The camera takes three shots.
Very fast, the new faster shutter is great.

Nevertheless you will need a tripod for a sharp image.
I did a few shots by hand and they were all blurred.

The source images are deleted, you will get only one JPG.

Here is one example, where I placed tha camera on a table.
Unfortunately I have no non-HDR version, but the middle part was very dark.

Here is Ned B's quick input on the HDR functions, including a plug for Jack Howard's blog article referenced here in this thread.

NED BUNNELL: K-7 HDR Capture Mode

It has before and after pictures with no hdr, level 1 and level 2. All taken with no tripod. It'll be interesting to see what he says later on about the feature.
