K-7 is old news. Howwill the K30D top that?

K7 was sooo close with 1920 x1080 HD. I think the K30D will be expected to have it now....
Hopefully they will include non JapAmerican frame rates! 25fps please.
Smaller body ( K-7 sized hopefully)?
Bigger sensor? Do we really need it?
100% viewfinder, with SPLIT PRISM as an optional OEM screen!!!!
Live histogram in VF etc...
WATERPROOF Limiteds!

Or do we need a K30D and just move on to the K6 or is it K8

the K30D should be below the K7 so don't expect it to be better

I don't think there will be a K30D.
They are going to use a new numbering system. And the next camera would probably be a "dumbed down" K-7 to replace K200D; but as with K20D, not a direct replacement model.

Sooo easy to be blase about new things isn't it.

In contrast I think the K7 is a worthy successor to the past high end Pentax camera's...the K10D (I have one) and the K20D.

Metal body, 1/8000th of a second shutter more seals, intro of more weather resistant lenses, movie capability , as one review says quite a competitor for the Nikon D300....the list goes on.

I liked the K20D but I didn't think it offered enough difference to trade in my K10D...the K7....I'd love to have one.

At this point, until I see actual photographic results and an in depth test of a regular production model, not just pre-productions...it's too early to say whether the K7 gets a Gold Star.

But so far all I've read...makes me feel very optimistic about this new machine. I think Pentax may have scored a hat trick (hockey analogy for hitting one out of the park for the non Canadians out there) with the K7....but let's wait and see...after all the reviews and tests are in.

It should be evident by now that thee won't be any K30d. The next camera will probably be somewhere between the K-m and the K-7. Probably better specs than K20d, but with controls more like the K200d. E.g. scene modes.

I agree...that makes sense...the K7 is the heir to the top line Pentax cameras...first the K10D, then the K20D and now the K7. I do believe as you say the next camera will replace the K200D. I would say within a few months. I think by October, in time for Xmas is my guess.

I plan on purchasing the K7. I have a K10 and the K20 just didn't have enough features to make me want one. The K7 does!

I'm in the same boat- I love my K10D, but the K20 just didn't bring it like it would have had to for me to drop that kind of cash... I'd rather load up on lenses (which I did).

The K7, however... now that's another story...

I hope they keep this sensor and keep refining it to evolve the basic features, get it from 4 channel readout to 6channel or even 8channel, increase video resolution and fps, work on the dr and noise

People are saying 'No K30d,' but, I'm not so sure... the way it looks to me, now, the 'entry level' has gone down toward things like the K-M... and the K20d's still kicks butt in the price range: I bet they could split the difference between the K-7 and the K-M in price and features and come up with something very K20d-ish: they could really keep taking advantage of the fact that the K20d's the best bang for the buck for poorer-but-serious photography people. They could basically just speed these guys up a little, toss some scene modes in the firmware, and call em a heck of an intermediate.

(Or, of course, they could beef up the K200d a fair bit, or make something new, but I think they don't need to make as many concessions to 'entry level' users as they did when the 100 series came out. If they're sort of straddling the market niches on price and features, anyway, it seems logical they might keep up the pattern. )

Well I guess the K7 really has put the cat amongst the pigeons.
It is better than the K20 so if the autumn camera is a K30 D how do they pitch it. The only thing I can see them doing to differentiate it from the K7 is keeping it a stills only platform, otherwise it encroaches on K7 sales. I think the next camera will be aimed at the k300 sector. A slightly improved K20 in a K200 sized body.

Unless the real surprise is that the K7 is the K200 replacement and the K30D really blows everything else out of the water!!

Don’t worry, I’ll wake up in a minute, just let me enjoy the dream for a little longer………

Well, the K20d will probably fill the gap between K-m and K-7 until the new camera arrives. The point is that the new camera will probably bear a family resemblance to the K-7 and not to the Kxxd- or Kxxxd- series, which both are history now.

So I assume we'll see a camera which is similar to the K-7, but specced more like the K20d. And I assume they'll add scene modes etc. like the K200d has - even the 50d has scene modes!
