DPREVIEW strikes again with "Nearly"?

At work, on our internal photography list there is a debate taking place.

on the dpreview frontpage we see this

"Optical viewfinder showing nearly 100% field of view
The K-7’s glass prism finder offers an approximately 100% field of view..."

While on the official pentax press release (and all other websitess i can find say 100% not "nearly") we see this:
"A 100 percent field-of-view viewfinder (92X magnification) and bright focusing screen are ideal for accurate image composition and accurate focus."

I can see this causing trouble, and my fanboism is triggered. Anyone care to comment?
-Cory

Yes, but the rest of the review is very positive.

That 'nearly' 100% is still a shit-load more thatn my current K10D, that alone is enough to sell me since I don't already have the K20D. I will own this camera by years end.

Why are you surprised? If it's Pentax DPR will not like it as much as if it were Nikon or especially, Canon.

NaCl(it is a Canon site, at least administratively)H2O

Relax, Cory!

This time DP Review is being fair.
I don't know when you read that but this is what I read from DP Review about K-7 viewfinder:
QuoteQuote:
The K-7 is another semi-pro grade Pentax with a great viewfinder. The overall size is about the same as that of the K20D (one of the best in any APS-C DSLRs), but it's been redesigned so that it offers a full 100% frame coverage, albeit at slightly lower magnification (0.92x).
Here is the link at page 4 of preview:

Spec sheet on DPR lists full 100% coverage. I really think you're just trying to find a reason to bash DPR here.

calm down, people

You're all sounding more than a tiny bit crazy. The constant complaints of DPreview bias don't seem to hold water. I bought my K100D and later K10D based on their positive reviews, and only later learned on the forums that the reviews were actually, despite appearances, negative.

Anyway, this phrase is from the official Hoya/Pentax press release as posted in the megathread. It says:
QuoteQuote:
2. Optical Viewfinder showing nearly 100% field of view
The K-7’s glass prism finder offers an approximately 100% field of
view and an approximately 92% magnification to facilitate focusing
and framing operations.

The German version said something similar. And as discussed in the megathread (somewhere), it's simply a matter of hedging bets, because in reality it's probably 99.535% or something.

There's nothing to see here. Move along, move along.

Nikon D3 is spec'd as "approx 100%". I looked at their website.

I expect all 100% viewfinders have the "almost", or "approx" cavet in the spec.

This is just ridiculous

My impression of the dpreview preview was one of real enthusiasm!

much humor guys... I didn't start the debate i was just wondering what was up. folks here made a point of saying it wasn't 100%.

I agree, quite the glowing preview by the dpreview boys, and i don't find any fault with it at all. I was just bringing up the point made looking for why they would say nearly.

now back to scheduled programing

Hi Robert,

I'm just up the road in LaGrange,GA. I don't run into too many Pentax users around here.

But why would they say "nearly"? Thats what I want to know. I can see the perspective of this post and its relevance. They stick little slights like that in most reviews other than Canon or Nikon, its quite annoying.

Good review from DP (for a change)

loved the bit where they compared the K-7 as a pocket battleship to the D300 dreadnaught.

You're not kidding! Of course that seems to be the case wherever I go. I kind of like it that way, though
