For some definitions of "better", undoubtably. The D300 already is in some respects. But since the D400 will almost certainly be a lot heavier and lack in-body SR, it will be no more appealing to me than the D300 is right now.
Pentax has chosen not to compete head-on with the cameras of Nikon and Canon. Those who need the D300 (and eventual D400) will buy that camera. But I suspect the K-7 will appeal to a lot of people even if some of its specs are "inferior" on paper.
