Dxo sees the light (non-k-7)

For equal, normalized SNR, a high-resolution camera is still better than a low-resolution camera. While it is always possible to simulate a low-resolution camera using a higher resolution camera (since downsampling is easy), it is not possible to simulate a high-resolution camera from a lower resolution one other than by interpolating or inventing data.

More pixels offsets noise!
I fixed the link.

I always used the "insight" posted by DxO in my posts. It is simple reasoning. DxO manages to make it look like hard science

I acclaim their new "normalized SNR" measure. FWIW.
If they now would normalize for sensor surface as well and we would have a technology measure, the only measure which has a non-trivial meaning.

Thanks, it was a post on the fly (as many of mine are...). I've yet to digest the whole thing but the RAW conclusion is no surprise to me (as you may already have guessed).
Oh you might get a kick out of this thread (first few posts )

I think your missing a fair amount of entertainment:
After reading it, here's a little homework exercise:

Two survey organizations conduct polls. Each interviews 10000 people. Polling organization A does this by sending out 100 pollsters to interview 100 people each; each pollster's data is accurate to 10%. Polling organization B does this by sending out 25 pollsters to interview 400 people each; each pollster for organization B collects data that is accurate to 5%. Both organizations collect the data from each of their pollsters and collate the results into an overall conclusion. Whose poll is more accurate?

Answer that correctly, and there's a hope that someday you may understand the relation of the accuracy of individual samples (the pixels) to the accuracy of the whole (the image).

I was actually originally referring to Phils wonderful comment and the sniping followups.
