Any one know what they plan for the K-8?

I know it's a bit early to ask but my K200d is still fine and i think i'll buy one or two DA* lenses or even the 50-200mm WR lens before i get a K-7. Prob be on the market for a new body in about 12 months or so.

I'm only playing silly buggers asking about the K-8 but none the less still funny.

Ps anyone got a DA* 16-5omm for sale in Oz?

Whether it will be called a K30D or whatever, I have a feeling that Hoya/Samsung are working on a new sensor that will cram in 17+ megapixels or so in to an APS model that will replace the K20D with better noise figures than their 14.6 meg model. As to FF, I am not sure that Pentax will enter these waters until they are in a position to supply an arsenal of lenses worthy of a top end 35mm format flagship model. We already know that the 645D will be a reality in the not so far future and the price might just compete with the likes of Nikon and Canon's high end models.

How about physics? 17+ MP at APS-C = early diffraction and problems of lens resolution. We should forget about wide-opened shots and shots at F6.3-11.

I think MP race at APS-C is stopped. Even Ned Bunnel said about it.

645D is planned to be for sale on spring 2010 under USD 10 000.

"We should forget"? Increasing the sensor resolution won't decrease the level of details captured. It may not increase it, though, but I feel there still is some room for improvement in APS-C.
This doesn't mean I want more pixels I'm more than fine with 14.6

I guess K20 sold out and a K70? comes late this year.
A K8 or K7 super comes next year,
can be a upgrade as K20 was from K10.

yes. but it's unreal to avoid diffraction of optics. you will use only f4-5.6 for good pictures with fixed lenses.
Do Sensors “Outresolve” Lenses?
Optimal number of MP for APS-C - 7-13 MP

The diffraction starts at 13 MP APS-C sensor from f/8. At 17 MP APS-C sensor - from f/5.6-6.3.
At D3X from f/8 (Thom Hogan's tests).
http://bythom.com/nikond3xreview.htm
Only for highly corrected lenses (with better performance at f/5.6 than f/8) do higher sensor resolutions make sense.
For instance, you can put 60 million of pixels into a 35mm sensor, but only a diffraction-limited lens at f/5.6 would take advantage of it. The price to pay is in the form of huge files, and comparatively low signal to noise ratios (which translates to noise, narrower dynamic range, poorer tonal variability).

Smaller size of pixel kills colour.

haha, yes it is a little bit too early.

The k7 is not yet for sale!

I think you are a little bit too much cameraholic right now. In the end of the day it's about taking pictures right?

Or maybe I have missunderstood the whole camera-thing

I think you are the first anyway with this kind of thread so congrats

I heard a rumor that the K8 will have a Square Sensor and that it can shoot freaking laserbeams. It will also be fully water proof up to 100 meters it will have a custom 30 pound battery grip adapter that will allow u to use the camera as a small boat anchor. it will also have a built in Bear spray adapter that will allow you to confidently hike in the woods without the fear of running into well Bears .

6months after the K8 is realased Pentax will introduce the K8super. This super model will allow will be silver and black and will have a built in GPS mapping through the newly designed 5inch OLED screen and it will have a built in game mode that will have archived all the Where is Waldo books, So when you do not feel like taking pictures you can try and find Waldo.

Side Note. A movie playback mode would be cool. Load a bunch of DIVX movies on a SD card and watch them on your 3in screen while you travel.

It won't be a K8, but there will be a K9, and it will reproduce analogue classics in a fun way.

the right way to go is to continue keeping the mp count the same and keep developing the sensor and processing engine as they have done with the k7. they increased the readout channels from 2 to 4, next time they can add more for even more fps. 7-8 fps would be impressive. also there is a lot you can do with the movie mode, obviously increasing res to 1080p and also increasing fps to 60. then keep on improving components to reduce noise and adding enchanced hdr features etc.

i wonder if they will now phase out the old sony sensor and go with samsung for all levels of cameras. i feel live view is already important for entry level and soon movies will be too.

And if it would run the Android OS, we would be able to write our own camera applications, without the need of anyone disassembling firmware downloads...
