Aha. That's good to hear. If they can make a profit on the K20d, now, (I presume the R&D is paid for, now. ) it's still kicking for the price point, and can still really get people into the brand, I think.

I think Pentax UK has no idea what's going on. Their web site lists the K100D Super as "no longer available", but the K10D, K100D, and K110D still appear to be part of the current lineup. Add to that how [thread=60969]badly coordinated[/url] they were on the K-7 launch when everyone else was updating their web sites....

for some features it matches, for some features it exceeds (or just have those while D300 lacks) and for some features it lags (or does not have)... I'd buy K-7 and not D300 - but I recognize that K-7 does not beat D300 hands down.

Yes, it has been confirmed by Mr John C of Pentax Imaging USA that the K20D will continue to be available for some time, and that the K-7 is not a direct replacement for it. K20D fills up the gap between the K-7 and the K-m.
you still can buy D200 ( - Nikon D200 10.2 MP Digital SLR Camera $619 - that deal was in march/april 2009 ) , that does not make D300 not a replacement for D200...

note D300 is in production for almost 2 years and D200 was put in production almost 4 years ago.

About this Nikon D300 is better blah-blah - here is a report from Mr Roberts about the enhanced metering system in the K-7, and it also shows that the dynamic range (DR) of the sensor in the K-7 is improved compared to the sensor in the K20D.

K-7 impressions: Metering and DR: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

It is simply not fair to say that the K-7 is inferior to the D300 based upon the performance of the K20D. The K-7 has a new sensor.
the only blah-blah-blah here are your postings... as it was noted in GordonBGood posting @ DPReview - "the raw source images for this analysis came from a Pentax website, which somewhat implies that Pentax intended for us to be able to download and analyse them and that therefore it may indicate that the image quality of these images is a close to production quality."

But you can switch NR off on the K-7.
apparently you can't completely - the same story as it was in K20D

Yes, DNG's are lossy compressed.
even Adobe DNG converter does not have an option to have a lossy compression of raw data when you are converting PEF to DNG - only lossless or no compression at all... so Pentax provides an option to have lossy and lossless compression for the raw data when you select DNG instead of PER, right ?

Then provide your measurements of the shutter lag of the K-7 with production firmware 1.0. Already the beta 0.2 and 0.3 were faster than the K20D. But since you obviously has acccess to K-7 production firmware for testing against a D300, I expect to see your test results.
K-7 might be faster than K20D (just because it has to be able to come close to 5FPS) but that does not make it faster than D300 if you will think a little bit about D300 capable to shoot 8 FPS.

With Pentax, simple features are accessed to all photographers. In this, Pentax is more democratic than Nikon.
there are freeware HDR applications, so yes... Pentax is more gracious to technically-challenged people.

With MTF charts tested individually for each lens?
Pentax has it for modern lenses and Nikon has it for modern lenses...

Pentax had lenses that send distance info to the cameras metering system several years before Nikon invented the 'D' on their lenses.
yes, there was a time when Pentax was better in this sense... not anymore... lack of normal ring type USM motors is one example.

The data is saved with the RAW file, it is even included in the DNG's, so a stand alone RAW-converter that are able to read this data can use this to make distorsion and lateral CA correction. The new PhotoLab software that ships with the K-7 already does this, yes it reads the RAW-file and makes correction from the lens data saved in the RAW file.
so does Nikon software and if you need a 3rd party lens support - DxO is at your service - just compare what is available for Nikon and Pentax there.

Pentax lenses are measured individually at the factory
oh I see - apparently during this process of measuring each and every 16-50/2.8 individually they got a lot of bad apples

The K20D was positioned by Pentax as advanced DSLR, the K10D was positioned by Pentax as Popular class DSLR, so the K20D was already one step up from the K10D, the direct replacement for the K10D was actually the K200D because K200D is in popular class - same class as the K10D was targeting.

K-7, however, is on the top of APS-C cameras, semi-pro/pro class. This is above the K20D class.

D200 and D300 were both in the same class. But the K10D -> K20D -> K-7 development means a change of the class. Or to put it easier: D200 = D300. K-7 > K20D > K10D. K200D = K10D.

You don't recognize that D300 nor the coming D400 beats the K-7 hands down.
