The K20D was released AFTER Hoya bought Pentax. It may have been in that short period of time while Pentax Corporation still existed, but all the stock was owned by Hoya. Shortly thereafter, Hoya merged Pentax Corp. into Hoya Corp. and Pentax Corp. ceased to exist.

I believe that the K20D was developed by the old management, but by the time it came to market and rebates would have been involved, Hoya was firmly in control. If anything, Hoya tried to increase profit margins by raising the price of the K20D, relative to the K10D release price and curtailing rebates.

The K10D, which was definitely created and marketed by the old management, included rebates. I got $50 back on my K10D.

rebates are bad....

rebates make Pentax loose money...
and they compensate it by higher prices in the rest of the world....

I will jump ship.... Oh no, "that other brand"had US only rebates as well....
Must get the WTO to act on this one... Soon.

Not necessarily. They also encourage people to rush and spend money before the rebate expires. If they postpone the purchase to a later time they may end up buying a Sigma or a Tamron instead, or even use the money on something else.
