K7 will be delayed in JP?

The original schedule to release K7 in JP is the end of this month.
I just wonder whether it's valid or not. It's because, up to now, the sample released from different source only show firmware up to 0.35.
I don't really think pentax can meet the schedule.
Any other comments?

Im also concerned about the fact that the firmware doesnt seen to be finished and thus there is a lack of official samples and reviews. I seem to notice officials slowly posponing the release time. first it was mentioned end of june, then start of july, latest Ive heard mentioned mid july

They won't finalize the firmware (production v1.0) until the final days before launch. So don't worry about it.

Right to this point, K-7 is still on schedule to be delivered at the end of June in Japan.

I don't know, i guess the time is running short.
I guess they need time to add the firmware, put into the packing and distribute to the retail shops ....

Why?

Number 0.35 doesn't mean anything. It's just the 35th revision of the pre-prod firmware. Impossible to tell how many pre-prod versions there will be, so impossible to draw any conclusions based on the number 0.35...

There is no need to worry.
The beta-production samples has beta firmware.
This doesn't mean that the firmware 1.0 does not exist. It just means that Pentax has not made the 1.0 official yet. It is currently not available outside the R&D at the Japan HQ. But yes, firmware 1.0 do exist.

Camera will begin to ship from the factories late June.
Then it will take some time for the camera to enter the shops, because it takes some time to travel with the boat from the Phillipines where the camera is made, but the schedule is still early July.

Oh, and note that the beta samples of the K20D never got firmware 1.00 (I don't remember now if the latest firmware was 0.23, 0.3 or 0.6 for beta K20D) - and then suddenly, like out of the blue, we had production cameras with firmware 1.0. Don't understand how it happened really, but it did.

I would not worry too much either. I'm pretty sure 1.0 does exist right now, you don't finish up something as important as a camerafirmware in the last days before release, it does not work in a professional environment. The fact is that camera shown to dealers and photographers were beta ones with beta firmware while the "real" ones are just being manufactured.

Wait and see indeed. The interesting thing is that one dealer in France told me he was suposed to get the first ones around June, 15th, at least two weeks before the generally perceived availability date...

I don't think there's any reason to believe that Pentax is "scientific" in their version numbering. I think one piece of software I once wrote leaped from 0.02 alpha to 1.0 beta relatively fast

Early production samples are probably meant for demonstration purposes in the shops and are not meant for selling.

Firmware versions give no indication of how close something is to release. Just an incrementing number for testing. And I wouldn't worry if they are waiting until the last minute to release the firmware. As a developer I would prefer that they keep incrementing the versions right up to the release date. That means they are improving and testing instead of just being good enough. And as soon as 1.0 is released they will be testing with 1.0.1 or whatever the next version will be.

Version number does not indicate anything but a version number

Version number in my field (publishing) could be any number lower than 1.0.

E.g. could jump from V0.54 to V1.0 if the V0.54 version was an acceptable final draft.

Versions do not need to go to V0.99: that would mean there were 99 versions to get to a release. It that happened I would be asking some hard questions about the snail-like development process!
