Two quick updates that would help for a K-m Super: Focus detection points, and an orientation sensor.
The new K-m super should have a video mode too, of course.

That's impossible with the K-m's 10MP Sony CCD sensor. If an eventual "K-m Super" shows up, it will need a new sensor to offer a video mode.

What sensor could Pentax put into new K-m?
Sony has no new CMOS sensor.
A bit speed-up Samsung sensor from K20D?

They could use the same sensor that resides in the D90 and D5000.

That seems to be a Nikon-exclusive sensor. Even Sony has no product using it, and they are rumoured to be building it for Nikon !

maybe they will put the same k7 sensor since its the only one with video, I bet all the entry level slrs will get video soon. it also has a decent live view which is also getting commonplace. it might be nescesary to compete. i guess it would make it simple to use the same sensor in all the cams. maybe they get a decent price on it since they are working with smasung as opposed to buying from sony and maybe the price goes down if the volume goes up

Wasn't the official statement that there would be 3 new or updated models released this year?
K-m Super, K-7 and a K-[midrange] are possible I suppose

I would be surprised if the K-m is going out of production so soon, as (in DSLR terms) a recent model. The K200D, however, is probably due as now been out 17months (18months is normal), but with the K-7 just announced maybe a delay. K20D however, obviously the K-7 is the replacement, but no mention of production end.

I would say, that the K-m extinction is premature, and Pentax, will have something to announce in Sept about a replacement to the K200D and possibly the K-m. In the meantime buy the camera you want, you can still get the K-m, K200D and K20D easily in the UK.

Today:
$410 body-only
$440 lens kit
$495 lens+flash kit
$530 two-lens kit

Which is finally in the range of attractive pricing for the body only. I'd still say to get the $440 kit, sell that lens on eBay, and put the money towards the DA 40mm Limited ($300, minus $60 from the in-box rebate, if that's still valid).

And yeah, they really should fit in the orientation sensor. Better yet, they should add the auto-leveling feature.

The K200D hasn't been made for months, so yes it is no longer produced. This isn't news, I thought everyone knew that it was discontinued.

The official word for Pentax is that the K20D will still be made for quite some time, to fill up space below the K-7. A new model with many features and fuctions borrowed from the K-7, but in a lower cost and simpler package, will be available later this year.

The K200 is gone off the shelves here and has been for a while.
Good camera at a tempting price if you can find one.

K-m and K-20 are still being promoted here and I guess they will be around for a while yet.

I don't see the KM as going out so fast either. The KM is an intro camera, a camera for those who want a second body to their K10D, K20D or K7...it fit's the niche of the old, beloved K1000 back in the film days.

I think there might be different additions coming out in the future with changes...sort of like a KM Super or a KM 11.

But I'm just guessing...unlike some others who state their opinions as if they are proven facts.
