Anyone else dislikes the comparisons of the K-7 to the D5000/T1i or D300/50D even?

Truthfully, with all the hype surrounding the K-7 I expected it to be seen as a DSLR that was above D300/50D caliber, but most sites seem to put in between D5000/T1i and D300/50D or on par with D300/50D . This to me is kind of a let down. Do you agree with these sites or do you feel K-7 will be better all around to D300/50D?

To me it's of D300/50D calibre. Probably just size they compare to the others.

Well if I have to be totally honest i do not care.

What I care about is if it lives up to my expectations for the intented use.

I am with you Duplo

I just want to be half the camera the hype has turned it into...

Ps... did some test shots with the D5000 today... You will not see me badmouthing that little camera. For the money with the twin VR kits... It seemed like a fine little camera.

I don't really care which models various sites pit the K-7 agains, so long as they find that K-7 kicks some serious arse. I would start to get worried if they all started pointing out how in various ways, the D5000 comes out on top :-P

It's hard for anyone but the reviewers who have put there hands on it and actually tested the thing to be able to say exactly where it fits. Somewhere on the high end of in between seems to be the general consensus. That's probably a good thing from Pentax's perspective since that's a fairly open niche and the shooters in that range seem to be the clients they are most interested in.

How about a pretty substantial comparison to the D90?

Me too. They can compare it all they want, but there's just that. Comparisons. It's inevitable though.

It's marketing and information war against K-7. I'm sure.
I've already seen in Russia - "K-7 is new amateur camera, competitor for D90, but D90 is cheaper"...
It's a trick.

Just www.imaging-resource.com and www.dpreview.com are responsible

It's easy to undestand that K-7 is in one league with E3/A700/D300/50D. If any web-resourse compares K-7 with cameras of lower class, it means it's order from N/C marketing department. I don't remember such moves before...
K-7 is really cool machine so even Nikon and Canon don't like it.

well thats the problem with marketing it as a mid pro sector. Do you compare it to being lower then all the $4000 full frames or above the $1000 sector.

In PENTAX K-7 A Mid-Class Digital SLR Camera, Aimed at Realizing the Essence of SLR Photography and Equipped with Sophisticated Features for Top-Quality Digital Photography, Pentax says:

"A Mid-Class DSLR Camera"

what may be a fine understatement in Japan, is a statement of mediocrity in the US.

In the US, everything is greatest, biggest, ever, ... Disliked by pretty much the rest of the world but it is as it is. So, calling it mid class in the US just has its consequences ...

But the K-7 is mid class, in Pentax terms.
Above it is the 24x36, and we know that the K-7 is not a 24x36 or medium format digital. We also know that the K-7 is not a popular class/entry level camera.
So it sits in the middle.

But middle class is actually top class, for APS-C.
It is D300/50D with some extra twists and turns and fun. I like the K-7.

The reviewers are obviously Canon/Nikon users (or don't know what they are talking about) that WANT people to think that the K-7 is in the same class as the D5000 and T1i so that people that read the site will think of the K-7 as an overpriced mid-range dSLR, not a semi-pro camera up there with the D300 (it should be above the D300).

Since it uses Pentax lenses, it will be better for me than either the Nikon or Canon. Beyond that, I'm not really too concerned. It will be what it is.
