Will K200D replacement have a pentaprism???

In light of the new development with the arrival of Oly ep-1, how likely is it that the new K200D replacement coming before Christmas will have no pentaprism and have EVIL???

I for one would not be surprised at all.

I doubt it. I would not expect to see an EVIL viewfinder on the mid level DSLR from Pentax.

On the other hand, maybe Pentax will use a true pentaprism instead of a pentamirror on the K200D's replacement. Now that the K-7 has 100% coverage, they could use a 95% coverage viewfinder, and still be positioned under the K-7.

I'm betting the K200D's replacement will be called the K-x.

KM, KX, K2 becomes K-m, K-x, K-7

I wouldn't be surprised to see a real pentaprism, either, ...Hoya's... an optical glass company. I see no reason for Pentax to be bothering with an EVIL K-mount camera. Or anyone to do it with a full-sized lens mount, for that matter.

I'm still holding my fingers croosed for a small camera with pentaprism and AA batteries.

I don't think Matjazz that any future dslr from Pentax will still have as main power source AA batteries. As features like LV and movie mode are very important for this class on entry level cameras I suspect that Pentax will standardize on the new LiIon battery of the K-7. And a grip for 6 AA maybe too big for something of the size of K-m.

Just my guess!

The new camera will have an optical viewfinder, most probably pentamirror with 92% or 95% coverage. (pentaprism is too expensive and takes up too much space).

Pentax has said that they believe that optical viewfinders are superior over electronic ones, and they are not developing a mirror less camera.

I would also like to see pentaprism and AA batteries (CR3's too). Like the *IST DS. Which was tiny.

If you are going to make it a mid-range camera you have to compete with the likes of the D90 - which has a pentaprism (just like the D70 did around the same time as the DS).

Only Pentax makes AA dSLR cameras. I find it unlikely that they'll drop their unique feature.

Pentaprism isn't that much bigger (remember *Ist DS) and I doubt it would make more than 7% difference in price. I'm afraid that Pentax has decided to keep pentaprism reserved for upper class cameras. But now that we have three levels of cameras (Km, K200D, K20D) hope for pentaprism in AA mid range body is back.

pentaprism would be wonderful. 2 wheels would be nice too, but not going to happen.

I wonder what they will be doing size-wise. it's obviously more difficult and expensive to cramp as much electronics as they did with k-7. will k300d be bigger?

My hope is that it will have pentaprism
My guess is that it will have pentamirror.

I hope also it will be basically a K-7 in a KM body with no advanced features such as: chromatic aberration correction, level adjustment, framing adjustment, in-camera HDR and such.
But I do hope it will keep all the rest from K-7 and, why not, get a better video capturing (for what concerns CDAF and aperture control during capturing)...

There are still at least a couple of months before we'll get some leaked info...

pentaprism will be good, but at the same time it will add to the cost and weight of the camera as well.

A pentaprism does not add that much to the weight. Look at the difference between the *Ist DS (with pentaprism) and the *Ist DL (without). A measly 40g if the spec sheets are correct.

I think most of the beef for the size increases came from the shake reduction (+55g from DS to the K100D - which had a pentamirror), and the weather seals (from K100D to K200D =+30g) to 690g. Which was nearly too much for me - basically up another hundred grams and a much bigger body weight and dimension-wise.

Since they have redesigned the SR system for the K-M, I believe that Pentax could make a good, small mid-range body with a pentaprism (like the D90 has) to better compete.

We are talking the replacement for a mid-level camera here. I'd like to think we have a shot at this!
And my eyes need it for MF lenses!

these are the specs for the NX.

The NX is not a K mount camera, and if there were to be a Pentax version, it would require an adaptor to use Pentax lenses.

So, I doubt the Samsung NX will be the K200D replacement.

I think new sensor could be in K-70 (?) with 4 fps.
