So if a sensor switches from RGB pattern to CMY pattern is it a different enough sensor?
I suspect with the D vs ds/dl the Sony catalog would probably have a different part number.. but just a guess...
*ist D had fisrt generation of 6 MP sensor.
K100D had better 6 MP sensor, not the same.

if some people want a new sensor design, then they should ask Pentax build a 30x22 size of frame design above the APS-C design. atleast, that's the surest way of saying that it's an improvement in sensor frame size architecture. nothing new.
Size of sensor and MP are not ALL to be new sensor.
We say that K-7's sensor made under the base of K20D's sensor.

Buy, why do you deny that Samsung made any improvements on the level of developing (tweaked microlenses, dynamic range, lower readout noise, optimized for video mode e.t.c.) and manufacturing of K-7's sensor.

yes, of course, like *istD, *istDLs, *istDSs all were different sensors because they had different sets of glass&plastic in front of them...
...
This explains why someone has seen the subtle IQ difference from these cameras.

How can the two sensors be the same? This is a silly argument imo.
On the K20D, if one used Live View for an extended period, the camera will shut down over time due to heat build-up on the sensor. By way of comparison, the K-7 can shoot video for far longer than the K20D sensor's heat threshold during LV with no ill effects. That surely must indicate some differences between the two cameras. Just a non-scientific observation from one who has played briefly with the K-7.
