Blimey..!! Price almost doubled in less than 12 hrs.. I'm sure they are reading this forum or the bankers must've stepped into Lens market..

On a serious note, Pentax does not seem to be holding it's VFM tag any more.

EDIT: There is one available in Amazon UK for 624.

Cheers

To paraphrase the pesky French soldier in Monty Python's The Holy Grail 'I already have one', but, also, I might be a CaNikon shooter a year from now if this carries on.

Seems a bit like it depends on the lens:
Local Store in Germany:
DA* 50-135 for 949.90 EUR

Man, I was going to buy one last summer for less then 700!

The DA* 200/2.8 however is still mere 999 EUR ... although that's not actually cheap, too ...

The price rise took effect on the 1st of June but there is still some old stock around at the old price but they've obviously now run out of old stock on the 50-135 at SRS and Parks.

When I enquired about new prices at SRS I was told the DA 35mm Macro was going up to over 600 and the 16-50 was hitting 1109!!!! (RRPs - street prices will at least be slightly lower)

I've decided to buy some lenses from my shopping list from worldwide old stock now. I guess it will be a year before the price hike (after taking effect when all old stock is gone) wil lbe reverted by Hoya. When they realize that nobody is buying anymore.

I talked to one dealer who was admitting that sales on the 60-250 dropped from "good" to "zero" after the price hike.

I assume that Hoya is doing it in an attempt to get profitable. But in reality, it could ruin them. They'll find out about it sooner than later.

We should be grateful - here comes the perfect cure for LBA...

No new Pentax glass for me in the near future - and I'm not alone, I suppose.

I hear lots of griping about Pentax gear, but are these pricing issues valid with other brands?

If so, Hyperinflation may be on the way. Hang on, it's gonna be a rough ride!

yeah, it cured my LBA for now. unless someone suddenly sells em at an insanely cheap price, that would get me right back in line again.

Yeah. Maybe Hoya's hired a bunch of stockbrokers who lost their jobs in this financial crisis. Short term-gain, long-term woe.

"No, no, trust me - jack everything up. We should be able to see a 400% increase in profits in the next six months!"

"But what about after that?"

"What? Huh? I dunno. My contract runs out in five."

This is absolutely insane!
Leaves average Joe like me with very little disposable income out in dry.
With these kind of prices I'll be able to afford only used or basic cheapish lenses! None of which makes me happy...
I mean seriously, nearly 2x the prices as original? And DA35 expected to go for 600. Who in the world they expect to buy it? How do they want to sell 50-135 for over 900 when Sigma & Tamron 70-200 are going for nearly 300 less! Plus there is Sigma 50-150...
Anyway, I suppose it's a good time for those who have a full cabinet of original Pentax glass to jump the ship. They'd cash in nicely...
I really can't see how Pentax wants to gain market with price strategy like this!
Sorry for the rant, I'm just really p*!?ed off!

I have a suspicion (but only a suspicion) that Pentax stock levels are low so to reduce demand, they hike up the prices. Any they do sell are a bonus. Once stock levels go backup, they can lower the price (maybe to coincide with release of K7 and also maybe some rebates) but not quite back to previous levels. But customers will be happy because to a lot of them, they will be seeing the lenses go down in price.

Woah, I just checked prices for Germany and the DA*55 for example has gone up to 750,- Euros (that is an increase of at least 200,- if I remember correctly!) whereas the black FA31 costs an unbelievable 1200,- Euros now! Want more shocking examples?

DA 12-24: >1100,-
FA 43: 880,- (that is about the old price of the FA31!!)

Are these people on crack or what?
