Thanks, I really needed that lesson on how to read a graph...

While factually it's the same picture, at a quick glance they lead to very different impressions.
I must apologize - my response actually was reinforcing your point, but upon re-reading it this morning, I see it must seem dreadfully snide. Not my intention at all.

Try www.pricetrace.com's price history instead, it has a longer price history on this lens:
Pricetrace.com: Price information for Pentax SMC DA* Series 50-135mm f/2.8 ED IF SDM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Pentax and Digital SLR Cameras

I just checked and on Adorama the DA15 price went from $534.95 a few weeks ago to $649.95 today - ouch! I'm sure glad I put the money down just before the price rise!

Your guys still lucky. In Vietnam, where that DA* are assembled, the price is about USD 990. That is a ridiculous pricing!

I jumped on 15mm at $534 too. The prices seem to be going up and down a good bit. Yesterday Amazon had thet 100mm Macro for $551 so I went ahead with that one and now have to wait on the K7 again. A few weeks ago it was over $800.

They have the K7 down the $1199.00. I'm hoping that holds for another week.

I suppose you are not familiar with the European price policy. For example one of the major reasonably priced Finnish stores sells a DA* 16-50 mm for 982.90 (with today's exchange rate $1446) and a DA* 50-135 mm for 1053.90 ($1549).

How's that for a price? And you could probably find much worse prices in Europe.

Not to be prickly, but I just checked (9/21) Adorama's wwweb site and it's $534.95, if you click 'special pricing available.' Also, you may wish to call the dealer prior to placing your order. Sometimes, the wwweb price is higher than the phone order price... not always, but it may be worth it to at least ask a representative about 'price and availability' then place your order.

Cheers...

As mentioned, lens prices in the US are finally playing catchup with the rest of the world. I'd love cheaper items also but it's not quite fair when a discontinued K20D is still $950 here in Canada yet ~$620 in the US and then you have places like WalMart pushing them out on clearance in the $500 range, add your Bing cash back and you're practically getting it for free. There's only an 8 cent different from US/Canada currency at the moment so something is obviously messed up. That pales in comparison what Eastern countries pay.

That said, a 200mm f/2.8 is $1,089.99 for Pentax vs $849.99 for the Canon up here. Price gouging? Perhaps a little but I'm sure part of it has to do with volume sales. The DA15 is $759.99, now who's paying more even after the difference in currency conversion? Overall, comparing Pentax glass to Canon or Nikon, Pentax still comes in cheaper or hovering around the same. How long will this hold true for the US, I have no idea. The 50-135 shot up to $1600 here in April and settled back down to $1,079.99 from the original $849-$949, I suspect you'll see the same. Maybe Pentax clued in to a drop in sales or read the form for customer discontent.

Pentax prices going up? That explains why so many people are moving to Canon or Nikon.

It's funny. My perception is that a lot of people are moving to Pentax for the K7 right now and that those who are moving over from Canon/Nikon feel like they are getting a good deal.

Ask any Canon or Nikon owner and they will tell you their prices are going up also.
As I was driving to work yesterday and caught the tail end of the financial part of the news they mentioned that the US Dollar hit a new low against the Yen so don't expect prices to go down anytime soon.

Indeed, the Nikon & Canon lens prices went up

Indeed, the Nikon & Canon lens prices went up, but luckily for me after I pretty much bought everything I wanted & had to have prior to January 2009. Really from March 2008 thru January 2009 was the 10 month window I aggessively acquired my Nikon and Canon gear from scratch.

Had I hessitated and waited to leave one system for another my dollars would have devalued a solid 20% this past year.

The Yen conversion was 89~ish yesterday. Thats not an all time low. Its hit 87 past couple months. New Elected Japanese Gov't wants continued Yen appreciation & strength, so expect NO more low prices. Low like last year. Those days are over.

Even today's inflated lens pricing will seem like a bargain in a couple years. Prices will continue upward on all lenses from all manufacturers.

Buy now or cry later.
