Adorama DA* 50-135mm $1129.95!
B&H surely close behind.

Kit prices reflect old stock?

I noticed that as well. Been watching the DA15, jumped $100! My favorite price increase was the DA40 - $499!! Unreal. They better come back to reality or Sigma/Tamron lenses starting looking better and better...

And I just switched to Pentax from Olympus. Thought about building up a prime collection, guess that's on hold.

I bought that lens from BH 2 weeks ago for $749 free shipping.

now it's only $20 more.

I was just at my local shop and asked their price for the 50-135 and they said $1,200! I was shocked because I knew B&H had it for $750, but now I'm starting to get worried. OUCH! If the DA* lenses are now going to go for well over a thousand dollars there will be no DA* for me unless I start using it to make some money.

Check the FA77 and FA31

Take a look at the FA77 and FA31 prices. I got my FA31 for about $850 shipped 6 months ago and now it is $950 or $1300 at Amazon. The FA77 was going for $580 and it is now $1050!

Looks like the US price structure has just caught up to the rest of the world. Canada got our price hit on April 1st. Europe was hit earlier. Not sure about elswhere.

Ouch.

is it Pentax or the Yen?
how does Nikon , Canon doing...?

too many pentax lenses for over 1K that just does not fit, do I need to remind them that we don't have a FF camera yet .
prices for APS-C lenses should not be that high

Over here in Europe we had this happen a while ago. I bought my 50-135 for about (incl int shipping & ins) for about 600€, now its around 1000€, also the DA14 for around 400e, now its around 600€, the FA43 i bought new (incl shade etc) for a bit over 400€, its now over 600€ on most places, but d*mn, now I would need a normal zoom replacement for my kitlens and i cant afford a 16-50/2.8 with these prices... especially when i would need to get money for the K-7 also

I was planning on getting the 50-135 as my main "work lens" as basically all of my paid work is done within that focal length range. This price increase is equivalent to about 3 extra photoshoots. As one of my primary reasons for going pentax was affordability, I just don't know if that's going to continue to be viable to me. This totally screws with next month's budget.

Maybe I can catch one used for under $1000.

Disheartening but interesting. Evidentally, Pentax believes any loss in volume due to the price bumps will be more than offset by increased NUR - making the business more profitable overall. Time will tell if this works.

Perhaps they just screwed up on that one page? The kit is only $815

PX50135AFDK Pentax SMCP-DA 50-135mm f/2.8 ED (IF) SDM AF Lens Kit, with Tiffen 67mm Photo Essentials Filter Kit, Lens Cap Leash, Professional Lens Cleaning Kit,

I wouldn't want anything that comes with the kit, but I could find a place to store the junk if it saves me $300.

Don't think it's the Yen. The dollar is at 1:96 now and was 1:90 on Jan 1 - so the buck is stronger now actually.

As far as other brands, someone pointed out in the other thread on this that the Canon 200/2.8 lens is $750 compared to the DA*200/2.8 at $1200 at Adorama.

The thing for me is I can understand some market adjustments here and there but a 40% increase? The DA*200 went from ~850 to 1200. The whole thing (to me) stinks of "rebate" pricing; jack up the base price and then offer a "rebate" on the back side so the customer doesn't feel bent over. With the K-7 due out next week...
