I'd buy a 135/1.8 for $1200 as well...Pentax has the optical formula for it alreadyin the A*135. It just needs a screwdrive connection and a DA chip since the non-ring SDM motors aren't really fast...

...and as I have pointed out before a new 135/1.8 would cost $2000 (at least).
It's designer said ten years ago that a new version of this lens would cost at least $1600; note that that was ten years ago....

I would like to see an 8-16mm super wide angle for the Pentax DSLRs like the Sigma 12-24mm full frame super wide angle with 122 deg FOV.

The 85mm F1.4 with Pentax 1.7x AF adapter turns it into a 145mm F2.38 AF lens.

It would not...

Sony has a Sonnar T* f1.8/135mm (AF) for $1300 and this lens is FF.

Pentax could be a DA* (APS-C) 135mm f/1.8 for less of that...

I think $1500 would be a great price for a 135/1.8 weathersealed, SDM lens. I wouldn't gladly buy that in a flash. One of the criticisms I always hear about Pentax as a suitable system for pros, is that they don't have a line of 'professional' primes. And I think people mostly mean on the longer side of things. Because Ltds are plents prefessional. Making equivelent lenses just isn't going ot be enough. Making a 200/2.8 maybe sort of be equivelent to FF 300.2/8, except that you get less shallowd DOF and people from the other two brands can just through a FF 300/2.8 on their aps-c camera and get a 450/2.8. I know there are FA beasts kicking around, but they are hard to find. The Pentax bodies are now plenty professional in my opinion. There aren't many things a pro could need to do, that the K20d/K-7 won't handle, but the lens line up really needs to step up. The DA* lline is awesome, it just needs more options.

That is not a Pentax lens. I'm sure it is made by Cosina. Even the old A* lens costed more than this when corrected for inflation. It was also a money loosing lens.
Some seem to want exotic optics for free. It ain't gonna happen.

There's no gain whatsoever to make a 135mm lens cover the APS format only. In fact, it makes the lens more expensive as you have to include a baffle to strangle the FF image circle. Thats why the 60-250, 200, and 300mm are all FF. The APS image circle advantage is only valid for wide angles.

I assume you're talking about Sony's CZ 135/1.8 - regardless of where this lens is made or by whom, it's ludicrously sharp, and the bokeh is flawless. No modern lens in the same range surpasses it.

If they can make it for $1300 at that level of quality, Pentax should be able to do the same, or close. I would personally buy such a lens, as it would pay for itself easily in the portraits it could deliver.

Correcting for inflation alone in determining the cost of an item produced today is a fallacy at best, as it fails to account for improvements in manufacturing efficiency, reduced tear down costs and already recouped engineering overhead.

I have no interest in a DA*400 f4 because it would be too expensive. An older roadmap showed a DA Super Telephoto, and that's exactly what I'm hoping for, like a longer version of the DA 55-300mm. A new DA 100-500mm F5.8 or F6.3 would be just fine by me and inexpensive enough that I would definitely buy one.

Telephoto does not mean zoom.
