I checked for their distributor De Beukelaer BV (and Hoya too). Nothing.
So Pentax *is* doomed! Finally!

I want less, not more.

I'm holding my wife's K2000 in my hand right now. Gee, it's small, but I want it smaller...
  1. use a proprietary lithium ion battery that takes up half the space of the current 4 AAs. That'll remove the handgrip.
  2. make it next generation Live View, in other words, usable. That'll remove the Pentamirror and associated hump.
  3. slim the rest of it down by 10% through improved miniaturization

Make those changes and voila, a K-mount EVIL camera to challenge the Olympus E-P1 and the new Panasonic GF1! It won't be quite as small, but small enough.

Pick up some of the styling cues from the classic Pentax 35mm cameras and the new K-7 and you'll have grown men wetting their pants in anticipation.

Sell the body only for $350, and you'd have hordes of current Pentax owners shelling out the dough for a second body.

Me, I'd slap my DA 21 Limited on that thing faster than you can say supercalafragalisticexpealadocious!

I have to say when I started reading this I was thinking, well just go buy an Olympus, but the time I got to the end I was like... I'd buy this but I'm just a wee bit iffy on completely live view bit. I guess when the majority of the world is using the viewfinder or LCD it could work out alright. Sounds like a nice travel camera without the bulk!

I hope it's a K200D replacement. All the benefits of the K200D plus some updates from K-2000 & K7 technology would be a great camera.

Strange, there are no any leaks at all...

I hope it's a K200D replacement too.

Thought the same

Well there are leaks since we know it is coming but what is in the package is AFAIK totally unknown. Belgian rep said low-end but we were talking about the K-7 so, might have meant 'lower end'.

I actually just bought a K2000 because I wanted something smaller and lighter than my K20D, that I could use with just the DA 40 or DA 21 as a camera for when I didn't want to carry a lot of stuff. Is it bigger than a point & shoot "walking around" camera needs to be? Yes, but I have to have the optical viewfinder. The idea of putting on reading glasses to compose on an LCD is not my idea of fun.

I had a camera with an electronic viewfinder a while back (a Sony DSC-H5); the viewfinder sucked. Sure, I could see it clearly, but it had that motion lag that video does, if that's the right way to describe it.

Our local agent said it's a 'new K-m'. That's all they can tell, and that's all they know

It's a pity...
I need upper LCD.
But if new K-m has 11 AF points and 10 MP CCD it's not bad.

I guess that there will be no top LCD on the "K-m Super". Same camera housing I suppose.

Top LCD in "K300" seems more expected but with the 14Mpix CMOS. You can't have it all Ogl

Finally, some news! I wonder if we will find out at the same time whether there is to be a three camera strategy.

Maybe it will be an announcement date for two cameras *gasps*

I will be interested to see.

give me an updated k200 with better AF, AF Assit beam and bigger buffer and i'll be happy.

added features like LV and video would be nice to have, but not necessary, at least for me. that also raises the price.
I'd be happy with that too.

I'm also one of those that wants a new Pentax with a larger body. K10/20 size.
We'll see what the future holds...

I also prefer larger bodies. K100D always felt bit small to me and I'm really happy with K10/GX20 size bodies but...
something ofthe size/shape of Oly E4xx series would really please me. Forget the grip, it's too small on these small DSLRs, but optical VF is must. I really wouldn't want electronic VF. Keep 10mpx CCD but behind K-7 shutterbox. I wouldn't need video nor LV.
I'd be happy with somethinng like that, but...
customer demands are different so I expect: both video and LV, maybe tiltable LCD, probably no WR and still 4xAA...
oh well
