Well, I am not familiar with the movers and shakers at Pentax, or any likely partners. However, there must be some visionaries at Pentax, or at least innovators, just look at the long list of innovations introduced by the brand and what about the limited lenses, and hey, a FF 31mm prime that PP rated as one of the three best standard primes, right up there with Leica and Zeiss.

I think the fall from grace during the move from mechanical to electronic cameras was made even more significant by the strong marketing of Cannon with their EOS series of cameras, and Nikon also, both of whom have more bucks to burn on marketing. All of this caused the upcoming generation of camera buyers to overlook the Pentax brand. Especially since their entry to the DSLR market came with the ill advised *ist moniker and a minimal line up of models and lenses. But all that is changing and I think what we need is not so much a visionary partner that can bring innovation to the mix, but one who can help with distribution and brand power. Not sure who that could be ...but Pentax make good product, they just need the world to know about it and buy into the Pentax brand again.

Actually there are ongoing rumors of ill health and every time it surfaces, such as when he misses an event, Apple shares tank.

Yeah, they've "tanked" all the way down to $169 a share! LOL. Hmm, what's Microsoft trading at? A bit over $24 a share.

Perhaps you'd like to look at a time line? Apple Stock Price. Look at the 5 yr time line and compare it to Microsoft's.

What's the excuse for the dips of M$ shares? Perhaps it's also due to Steve Job's health? LOL.

Regards,
Mike

Absolute share price means nothing in itself. Would you rather have a million shares at $25 or a thousand at $169. My point is that whenever rumors of Steve Jobs health occur, Apple shares are negatively impacted.

Good question. Normally, one knows them by name. But it may be different for a Japanese company. Then again, the visionaries behind PlayStation3, MetalGear and Gran Turismo are all well known.
Those people are visionaries?

Hideo Kojima might've been, but now he's just an overblown, pretentious ******.

The Playstation 3 was eaten by delays, then sold at a significant loss for months, just to be able to compete with the Xbox 360 and pay for its Blu-Ray drive.

Gran Turismo? It's just driving a car. Sure, those are licenced cars that look plenty shiny, but perhaps they could've, you know, spent some money on gameplay. I 'spose it's just porn for petrolheads, but I'd hardly call it revolutionary or visionary.

To be frank, I don't like either company that well due to the strangle hold. I used to have a spoof operating system around here somewhere titled "WinBlown 2000." That thing was funny. Even the box was a spoof and funny.
HAHA! I resisted the switch from DOS to the GUI also. Have an OS CD marked, "Squid-Nose Mighty Hate, the Third Spawn of Satan".

Gawd, I hated Windows.

They could be. I don't know them well enough to say this for sure.
Then, some say that vision is at the core of management in Japan. I doubt it. But maybe more than in the US. Who knows ...

Anyway, all I wanted to say is that visionaries in power are a rare phenomenon and that there may be none in the Japanese camera industry.

Astounding Apple is that close in market capital!

My point is that if one bought 1,000 or 100 or 10 shares of Apple or Microsoft 5 yrs ago and sold them today one would have made much, much, much more money with Apple.

Mike

Look if Pentax wants to be a major player again, it has to bring in new people to photography. Simply getting Nikon people to switch over after they have invested 1,000's in their albeit overpriced gear is simply just going to prove too expensive marketing wise.

The future at Pentax:

Tomorrow, I predict that they will eat lunch, somewhere around the middle of the day. Someone will have a tuna sandwich. And many will have tea.

Excellent. Care to expound on the various specifics? I'm sure they'd be a hoot.

So, I happen to know that my Mac is aesthetically excellent. I'm nearly certain that I'm running the most advanced desktop OS available and I'm completely certain that, that will be the case on Friday, when my Snow Leopard disc arrives at my door.

I don't have to scan for virii every day. I don't live in DLL hell. My registry isn't corrupted. And, my Explorer.exe has never performed an illegal operation!

No wonder you'd hate me!

Regards,
Mike
